Horrible
Revisado: 12-26-23
I couldn't finish this book. I thought I would be brave and listen to the end, but this book was giving me bad vibes. Probably the worst book I listened to/read this year.

Too alert
Revisado: 01-27-22
The book is way too alert and too many things happen at once. The action of the book happens within a few days, which is not unusual, but the fact that the main character is in a continuous movement (no mention of sleep, food, or whether is day or night) is what threw me off. I like the idea of a hidden Tudor baby. But because only three people know about his origin, Brandon, our main character, has served as a squire his entire life. Then he moves to court to serve lord Robert Dudley, and in no time, he becomes the confident of all and a key component to the plotting of the court. The big lords and chancellors have years of experience in politics, and this guy, Brandon, just shows up and uncoveres all the plotting that goes being the scene. Moreover he is noticed by both princesses, and seems to have made a good impression on Elizabeth (plus slept and fell in love with her maid right after meeting her), but also on the new queen Mary. I don't find it plausible at all, and this lack of attention to time frame is irritating me.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Could not finish it to save my life

This audio book was so painful to listen. The performance was too much for me. I tried to give it a chance but simply could not. I probably would have liked the story had it not been for this bad reading performance

Beautiful story and marvelous performance
Revisado: 02-10-21
This is my kind of read. It was so refreshing and beautiful. I have been a fan of the Indian culture, Bollywood and language for many years. I even managed to learn the language. Regardless of this, I have never read a book written by an Indian author and about the Indian culture and life. It felt so good to hear words in Hindi and to go like: ''Ha! I know that word!''. This book is brilliantly written. Lakshmi, the Henna artists, is a strong willed woman who left her abusive husband to start a new life in a different city. She makes it on her own and becomes the most sought after Henna artist. Her life changes with the arrival of her sister Radha, whose existence she did not know of. She takes Radha in and cares for her. Lakshmi and Radha are two very different characters with strong and determined personalities. They both know what they want from life and are willing to make sacrifices. I really enjoyed the read and I am looking forward to get my hands on the sequel!

Disappointing
Revisado: 01-13-21
I read the first 4 books about 4 years ago. Back then, I was really into YA genre and I devoured the books. Now, I decided to finish the series (one big reason is that the books are included with the membership :wink). What a big disappointment. I don't blame entirely the book because I believe that maybe the main reason I disliked it was because I grew out of this genre. I did not like how much of a child the main character was. I did not like the fact that clearly the author did not do research about Romania (my home country) and therefore there are a lot of discrepancies. And also, the plot developed so slowly. More than half the book spins around Avalon's wining about not wanting to fall in love and get married. At the end, he marries the girl that he barely knows. This book should have ended after the 4th book. I will try to finish the series but have no expectations.
