"rishathra" keeps me from giving it five stars

Pros. Great story. Larry Niven has long been one of my favorite authors and I have listened to this book several times. Highly recommended. Great narration. I would consider it a plus if a book I was considering was narrated by Tom Parker.
Cons: For whatever reason, Larry Niven invented this bizzare idea of "rishathra" (sex outside one's own species). The story would have been every bit as good had Niven simply left that bit out. It's the only reason this book doesn't get five stars.

Adolescent Sex Fantasy

Pros: The narration quality is great and I love listening to the reader. He has great inflection and does a marvelous job voicing the many characters in the story. In future, I would consider it a plus if I noticed that Richard Powers was the reader for a book I was considering.
Cons: Larry Niven has long been one of my favorite authors, but I hated this book and didn't finish it. I've read and enjoyed most everything he has written. I loved Ringworld and Ringworld Engineers and have both read and listened to them both several times. They had this bizarre obsession with "rishathra" (sex outside your own species) but other than that they were great stories. I started The Ringworld Throne a few days ago and I've given up on it. I'm about 1/3 the way through and the constant focus on rishathra makes it feel like an adolescent sex fantasy. I felt embarrassed when my wife was in the room when I was listening. The vampire story line is all about sexual violence. I find myself thinking, "You have 3,000,0000 times the area of the earth with wonders and marvels untold and that's the best you could come up with?" I've never been so disappointed in Larry Niven.
