For more than a decade, while the First War of Scottish Independence rages, fierce warrior Conall MacGregor has dreamed of the revenge he will have against the man who robbed him of his family and home. To this end, he abducts the daughter of his enemy, hoping to force a marriage and reclaim what is rightfully his. Very Engaging with Well Developed Characters
Revisado: 04-26-25
It's really refreshing to have a storyline where the female character is strong in her convictions and doesn't completely cave after a single, mind-melting kiss.
It's equally refreshing to have the male character that is strong but doesn't default to the stereotypical 'might is right' domineering jerk.
There are scenes in this story that I've not experienced in others! *See the May festival!
Narrator was brilliant will well developed voices for all the male and female characters!
Terrific!

Seducing Your Spouse? How refreshing!
Revisado: 03-14-25
I felt the pain, the hope, the disillusionment of these characters. Even more impressive, I genuinely felt like the humorous banter as well as the gradual escalation of disagreement, to yelling, to calming down of the married couple.
I really enjoyed this story and how well it was narrated.

Charged with the restoration of Scotland's one true king, Duncan MacAlpin isn't surprised to find himself fleeing an army across the verdant hills of his homeland. But having to do so while shackled to a woman...that is a true challenge to Duncan's ingenuity and self-control. For the lovely, untouched maiden he's chained to is far too captivating to resist.

No reason to care for their success
Revisado: 02-25-25
I hated that (again) the guy 'tricks' an intimate promise from the virtual stranger hot chick and because she didn't specify her meaning, he basically says 'No take backs! I get to interpret it the way I want! And you DID promise!'
And of course, her honor, she's like, 'Well, I promised.'
The real truth is these are two people thrown together who want to have sex but it's written like it's forever love when NOTHING of substance has been shared between them to make the reader think they even know each other enough to fall in love. And as a reader, I'm left not caring.

Historia
Cainnech (Cain) MacPherson's hatred for the English was born when he was a lad of seven, the day they raided his village and killed his family. They took everything from him without mercy and tossed him onto the battlefield, where the memory of love faded to dust and left nothing in its wake but violence. Now, as Robert the Bruce's most formidable, most lethal warrior, he wreaks havoc on his enemy, taking land by force, without mercy. But when he raids a small castle in Northumberland, he faces his greatest opponent yet - a bold, beautiful Norman lass who will see him dead at any cost.

Great storyline read by a great narrator!
Revisado: 01-31-25
This story was refreshing!
I don't want my review to give away the plot but I spent the majority of the book wondering how the two characters could get beyond their differences.
I was pleased by the fact that, except when it was appropriate for the scene, the focus was not on her beauty or his masculinity, though the one appreciated the other's physical attributes, but rather on the other's intelligence, compassion, foresight, and even eventually overcoming pasts traumas.
It was made even better by a narrator who didn't make the female voices sound child-like or like her every word was in a whispered tone.
Great story line read by a great narrator!

Historia
Sorcha knew the mission was dangerous. Leaving the safe grounds of her brother's kingdom and parlaying with the elves across their border...well, treachery seemed at least as likely as true peace. But to support her sister, Sorcha would brave far more than the underhanded ways of the elves. Or so she thought, before she was taken hostage.

Narrator throws off the story
Revisado: 08-16-24
Almost the entire delivery makes me think the characters are trying to be heard from across the courtyard.
"SHOULDN'T YOU THANK ME? he mumbled."
Mumbled? What? That was 'mumbled'? I kept having similar thoughts as the story went on. Quiet, intimate conversation sounded like they were being projected for the world to hear. It just threw off the story so it was hard to really get into the characters.

I can't get enough of these characters!
Revisado: 08-15-24
I love that it takes until close to the end of the book before I stop mentally saying, 'Wait! Then who?!'
All the characters have flaws and depth. All the plots have unexpected turns.
I can enjoy the gradually connecting of the puzzle pieces without being traumatized by too much description on any gore and violence.

So D**n Good!
Revisado: 07-03-24
The story kept me hanging on each detail. I never felt like there was an obvious give-away clue. instead, there were twists and turns so the mystery remained a mystery until the last reveal!
Plenty of details without gore despite it being a murder mystery series.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Refreshing and Sweet
Revisado: 04-26-24
I've had hit or miss experiences with dramatized audios. This was really engaging. Not too many extra sounds (only enough to assist in setting the scene) and no music, which is inevitably too loud with too much of a soap opera vibe.
This story was charming and nailed the 'meet cute.'
The two main characters were convincing portraying their roles. I really enjoyed this.

intriguing
Revisado: 03-18-24
The downside was that there were very few characters so the pool of suspects limited. I also wished all the characters (I counted 8 - 9 if you include the mechanic) were developed more. Instead, half were best known by 3rd person account, not character developed.
I like the story - enough that I wished it longer - and I greatly appreciate that the tragedy that lead to this story was never detailed more than necessary. That was correctly left to the readers imagination.
