Mixed emotions
Revisado: 09-29-23
First I'd like to say that I love Angela Dawe, she is a fantastic narrator, I'd listen to her narrate a shopping list. I do find it odd that for a cast of 95% English characters an American narrator was chosen. Not only were the English accent(s) not great but I sincerely doubt that a mechanic from a small fishing village in Scotland would have the same posh, Downton Abby-ish accent as South English wealthy woman of privilege.
Having said that, the book was enjoyable if somewhat cheesy and predictable.

Ignore the Armchair Psychologist & read this book!
Revisado: 04-11-23
This IS a lesbian love story but it is so much more than that and it's amazing!
I let that one particular bad review sway me, however I kept coming back because I love fantasy / adventure / lesbian / love stories and this book did not disappoint! It's a wonderful swashbuckling adventure, well written with interesting, complicated characters you'll fall in love with. The narrator is expressive and engaging in a subtly genuine way.
Started the second book and I'm already anticipating the 3rd!

Historia
It's 1977, and Connie Fortune has an easy, freewheeling life as a wildlife photographer and illustrator. A new contract brings her to the Little Dip valley in Oregon to track down a rare bird, but a clash with Sylvie Garoul, the valley's owner and matriarch of the mysterious Garoul family, and her daughter, the haughty, frustrating, but somehow bewitching Marie Garoul, ruins the deal.

Very much enjoyed this book!
Would recommend for every wlw who is a big giant romance queen, like myself. Or perhaps the romantically challenged, like some people I both know and love, who've come here looking for inspiration.
5 stars all around, will probably listen to this one again. Abby Craden, as always, embodies characters with seemingly effortless mastery of voice and inflection that will partner with your imagination so shamelessly you could almost take yourself for a fly on the wall, experiencing it.

Historia
This is a zombie apocalypse story about the choices we’re faced with when trying to survive. Specifically, it’s about Willow (just call her Will), her dysfunctional mother, and the fiancé who recently cheated on her. When the three of them stumble across a post-apocalyptic vegan hippie commune in the mountains of North Carolina, they think they’ve found a true utopia. (Well, except for the veganism. And all the hippies.)

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up
Revisado: 07-20-22
My wife and I listened to this on our last road trip and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Just a bit different, off the wall take on the zombie apocalypse. It's fun, engaging and full of both adventure and tongue in cheek humour. It's also so awesome to have lesbian characters and not have that (sexual orientation) as the focal point of the story. Some of the characters happen to be lesbian but it's not what defines or drives them.
It's survival of the fittest. A dog eat dog / zombie eats humans world and everyone is hungry!
Elizabeth Saydah did a fantastic job with the narration. Great tempo and inflection, she did a superb job of infusing the personality of the characters into each voice.

I don't want to oversell this but...
Revisado: 10-22-21
I bought this book last week and I've listened to it twice all the way through back-to-back, and now I don't know what to do with myself. My only hope is that Emily Noon is hard at work on her second novel and isn't going to George RR Martin the next one!
This is a beautifully written sapphic love story full of adventure, heroic rescues, emotional strength, passion and revenge! I'm probably going to listen to this again (and again). I just can't get enough of Aurora and Evie and the spellbinding world that Emily Noon so artfully and vividly painted. Written in such a powerfully evocative way, I'm absolutely captivated.
Abby Craden did a really superb job of narrating and imbuing personality into the voices of the characters. Overall this is easily my favourite book of the year, and I highly recommend it to one and all.

Insipid Characters
Revisado: 01-07-19
Only listened to a couple of hours, couldn't make it through the contrived story line and failed to connect with the insipid unrealistic character. Not my cup of tea.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Sounded good till the crying
Revisado: 01-07-19
The story sounds pretty interesting and I was enjoying it until the one woman started crying. The female characters all come across as weak and pathetic and I can't stand trying listen to someone talk while they are crying. This is not for me.
