No dislikes. Loved the narrator. I enjoy historical novels. A library could fill war stories of the world wars: the nations & cultures involved as well as the strategies of war. I would read other works by this author ❤️

Would you listen to Shantaram again? Why?

Yes- the narrator has such a rich voice with the ability to speak an array of languages with genuine emotion.

What did you like best about this story?

The way the author wove the richness of the culture with the diverse characters. This book taught me much about life in the slums of India.

Which scene was your favorite?

There were many. My favorite scene was when the dancing bear was disguised as Gnash and spirited out of town on a parade float.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Shantaram- felon, friend, hero, fighter, survivor...

Any additional comments?

Waiting for the movie...

This is part of a trilogy. Each book is quite length. I really like it because I learned so much about mid evil times: history, lifestyle, etc.

Would you listen to Shanghai Girls again? Why?

No- I don't listen to books a second time because there are so many new books to explore

What did you like best about this story?

It brings to life the human, female experience of two sisters incredible life journey through major losses: self, family, country, dignity, deaths. I learned so much about Chinese culture, customs, philosophy and how the Chinese struggled as immigrants. It made me realize more than ever the contributions Asians have brought to our shores.

What about Janet Song’s performance did you like?

Her melodious, emotional voice, intonation really places the reader "in the moment"

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

"This "China Doll" is unbreakable!!

Any additional comments?

This work of fiction pretty much describes the decay of morality and work ethic and the implosion of society. It's a classic.

Excellent, well written fictional account of one woman's life on a Virginia plantation. As a child she was an indentured servant but through certain events become the wife of the owner's son. Ironically, she became as much a prisoner as her servants. Good triumphs in the end.

A different look into the Third Reich and the legacy of a brilliant, humble, selfless servant of Christ. What a difference one life can make. The author was also quite accurate in recalling the circumstances that allowed Hitler to rise to power.
