Historia
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six human species inhabited the Earth. Today there is just one. Us. Homo sapiens. How did our species succeed in the battle for dominance? Why did our foraging ancestors come together to create cities and kingdoms? How did we come to believe in gods, nations, and human rights; to trust money, books, and laws; and to be enslaved by bureaucracy, timetables, and consumerism?

Full of malarkey
Revisado: 03-16-18
Starts well but quickly devolves into fanciful musings by a third rate wannabe philosopher. If the author supplied even a shred of evidence it might have redeemed itself but after the midway point we are left with a feckless bloviating hot mess. Avoid at all costs unless your fetish is for fairytales dressed in pseudoscientific drag and endless social justice pontificating.

Wow... Much different than the movie!
Revisado: 03-02-04
The book and the movie are two entirely different animals. The movie is a parody of cheesy recruiting propaganda and the book is a sober reflection on the realities of war and the responsibilities of command. Duty, honor, and citizenship are examined in a clear, reasoned way. One can only wonder how, or by what shameful motivations, the revelations in this book got so corrupted by the dirty lens of Hollywood. This book is highly recommended... the pacing is perfect and the narrator is wonderful. It earns 5 stars as being one of the best that Audible has to offer.

Once again, Fannie Flagg gives us a story of richly human characters, the saving graces of the once-maligned middle classes and small-town life, and the daily contest between laughter and tears. Fannie truly writes from the heartland, and her storytelling is, to quote Time, "utterly irresistible."

Yawner
Revisado: 10-03-03
Despite high expectations and favorable reviews, this one turned out to be a yawner. It was like being stuck on a Grayhound bus for 6 hours next to a overly chatty grandma. My ear is still sore!

The experience of listening to Life of Pi can best describe as a journey to the exotic hinterlands of the imagination. It is colorful and humorous, strange and wonderful, dark and distressing, hypnotic and surreal....

The Colour of Magic, the first novel in Terry Pratchett's wildly imaginative Discworld series, takes the listener on a remarkable journey. The magical planet of Discworld is supported by four massive elephants who stand on the back of the Great A'Tuin, a giant turtle swimming slowly through the mysterious interstellar gulf. An eccentric expedition sets out to explore the planet, encountering dragons who only exist if you believe in them, and of course "The Edge" of the planet.

Pros: Wonderful works by a Titan of Sci-Fi
Cons: The publishers split up the original collection into two seperate audio publications (part two due this year I gather)
That irritates me.... So, only 4 of 5 stars for that stunt.

Revisado: 06-06-03
The authors insight, logic, and reasoning is clear and sharp as a diamond and just as valuable. This book crystalizes the essence of what is so great about America and cuts through widely popular fallacies with cold, hard reason. Bravo to Mr. D'Souza for crafting a highly engaging treasure. I was truly captivated. 6 stars!!!
