Historia
In an opulent mansion at the borders of the Empire, an Imperial officer lies dead - killed when a tree spontaneously erupted from his body. Even here, where contagions abound and the blood of the Leviathans works strange magical changes, it's a death at once terrifying and impossible. Called in to solve the crime is Ana Dolabra, an investigator whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricity. At her side is her new assistant, Dinios Kol, an engraver, magically altered to possess a perfect memory.

Intriguing at least
Revisado: 04-10-25
The worldbuilding and lore is very interesting and I am quite eager to find out more about this setting.
Sadly the characters fell completely flat for me. The narration was a mixed bag with most characters, apart from Ana having voices that made them seem old and somehow obese.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Somewhat overhyped
Revisado: 04-03-25
The story is a mixed bag. The start is very slow and I had a hard time feeling much for the protagonist who doesnt have much development. I like the cat and the world is somewhat interesting.
The narration was excellent though!

Historia
Bitter and merciless war is coming to the frozen north. It's bloody and dangerous and the Union army, split by politics and hamstrung by incompetence, is unprepared for the slaughter that's coming. Lacking experience, training, and in some cases even weapons, the army is scarcely equipped to repel Bethod's scouts, let alone his elite forces. In the heat-ravaged south, the Gurkish are massing to assault the city of Dagoska, defended by Inquisitor Glokta.

Average sequel
Revisado: 03-29-21
I love the first book in the series, especially for the characters. The second book has some character development, but seems to preoccupied with adding more action and sex instead of moving the plot in interesting directions. It ends up a very average grimdark fantasy book rather than a great one like the first.

Historia
As the first novel opens, Titus, heir to Lord Sepulchrave, has just been born: He stands to inherit the miles of rambling stone and mortar that stand for Gormenghast Castle. Inside, all events are predetermined by a complex ritual, lost in history, understood only by Sourdust, Lord of the Library. There are tears and strange laughter; fierce births and deaths beneath umbrageous ceilings; dreams and violence and disenchantment contained within a labyrinth of stone.

Masterpiece

Mervyn Peake’s way of using language is mesmerizing.
Titus Groan is both funny, grotesque, beautiful, macabre and romantic. And Saul Reichlins narration is exquisite.

I want more!
Revisado: 09-09-19
Pleasant surprise. While the worldbuilding was a little lacking and the side characters where too cliche, I thouroughly enjoyed the story and especially the main characters. I hope we get more stories with these two awsome women.
And a special nod to the narrator who did a fantastic job.

Historia
Sequel to the extraordinary The Name of The Wind, The Wise Man’s Fear is the second instalment of this superb fantasy trilogy from Patrick Rothfuss. This is the most exciting fantasy series since George R. R. Martin's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, and a must for all fans of HBO's GAME OF THRONES.

Somehow even better than the already fantastic first book in the series.
Rothfuss has a almost magical way with words and Degas performance captures the essence of the book to perfection.
