Historia
There is a war on masculinity, and everywhere we look—on every front we hold sacred—we can see the painful reminders of this collapsing order. The chaos and crisis we are experiencing today should be a signal for men everywhere to rise up; to fight to preserve our way of life by once again walking the ancient paths. But this isn’t a journey that need be taken alone.

Wisdom that is lost in rising generations

There is nothing overly profound here. It is simple and true, and I will listen to it at least once a year to stoke the fire.

Historia
Between 1999 and 2017, an estimated 250,000 Americans died from overdoses involving prescription painkillers, a plague ignited by Purdue Pharma’s aggressive marketing of OxyContin. Families, working class and wealthy, have been torn apart, businesses destroyed, and public officials pushed to the brink. Meanwhile, the drugmaker’s owners, Raymond and Mortimer Sackler, whose names adorn museums worldwide, made enormous fortunes from the commercial success of OxyContin.

Unfortunately, many companies have ghosts in their closet. Pharmaceutical companies in particular appear to be driven by greed. None of the pharmaceutical companies have your best interest in mind.

Historia
Eli Jefferson left his home in Sweetwater, Texas, intent on doing as a good son should, and helping to raise the money his father needed to pay the upcoming bank note. After finishing a cattle drive and earning the money needed, Eli set out for home, ecstatic. As he neared home, Eli was bushwhacked by an unknown gunman. The bullet creased his head and left him with amnesia. With no memory of who he was, he stumbled unknowingly on the burned remnants of his family’s ranch. His mother and father had both been brutally murdered, and the cattle stolen.

Boring
Revisado: 01-15-23
I struggled to get through. I got really sick of it saying that everyone was looking at each other over raised eyebrows. it had many other repetitive descriptions as well. the story lacks action and you just get bored. waiting for something new to happen

Historia
Everyone knows that regular exercise and weight training lead to physical strength. But how do we strengthen ourselves mentally for the truly tough times? And what should we do when we face these challenges? Or as psychotherapist Amy Morin asks, what should we avoid when we encounter adversity? Through her years counseling others and her own experiences navigating personal loss, Morin realized it is often the habits we cannot break that are holding us back from true success and happiness.

Historia
Tank Driver is the story of a young man’s combat initiation in World War II. Based on letters home, the sparse narrative has the immediacy of on-the-spot reporting. Ted Hartman was a teenager when he was sent overseas to drive a Sherman tank into combat to face the desperate German counterattack known as the Battle of the Bulge. Hartman gives a riveting account of the shifting tides of battle and the final Allied breakout. He tells about the concentration camps, the spectacle of defeated Germans, and the encounter with Russian soldiers in Austria that marked combat’s end.

Great documentation, Lacks appeal of flowing story
Revisado: 09-19-19
The details and recording of dates are outstanding. I enjoy military history, and this account filled a gap of what tank platoons were feeling and experiencing. Overall, I could not listen to it for long periods of time because it is not really laid out like a story, but rather like a text book with some of the authors feelings injected throughout. I am grateful to have listened for the information, but I don't think I would turn to this book for entertainment the way I do with other military biographies.

Historia
If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed. On May 17, 2014, Admiral William H. McRaven addressed the graduating class of the University of Texas at Austin on their Commencement day. Taking inspiration from the university's slogan, "What starts here changes the world," he shared the ten principles he learned during Navy Seal training that helped him overcome challenges not only in his training and long Naval career, but also throughout his life; and he explained how anyone can use these basic lessons to change themselves - and the world - for the better.

I remember watching this speech on YouTube. the short and Powerful stories that comprise this book drive home each of the points, and are already helping me to be more motivated, and less critical of my own life. I historically have not enjoyed books that are read by the author, this is a big exception. the stories are very personal and you can feel them by having him relate them

Historia
Think smarter, better, and faster. Clear thinking is the key to truth, wisdom, and knowledge. Whether it’s from ourselves or others, we rarely see the world as it really is. We aren’t able to think clearly. We build our beliefs on lies, assumptions, and deceptions. This ends now. Practical methods to never be fooled, stop making mistakes, and avoid traps. The Art of Clear Thinking takes an in-depth look at the everyday illusions we come across, and how to defeat them once and for all.

Well thought out ideas
Revisado: 07-31-19
I listened to this book twice, and tried to absorb the information.
A couple of my takeaways were:
1. You are never thinking clearly if you are not willing to look at every angle of an idea. You can not pre-rule out any side of the story, and maintain a solid mental structure. This is super hard for me to do. I think all of us have a built reality that excludes many sides of an idea.
2. Ego can be as blinding as a pillow case over your head. One must be humble, even if they are an expert, in order to continue to learn.
I recommend this audio book. The narrator has a nice deep voice that helps the ideas sound authoritative.

Great advice for controlling impulses
Revisado: 07-31-19
I, like I assume everyone, have trouble doing what I should be doing day to day. I play video games when I should be cleaning and I sit the family down for a movie when we should be going for a hike. I really enjoyed the straight to the point approach of this book in controlling the impulses to do easy or lazy things, when there are better things to do.
It doesn't get preachy, and is a quick listen.

I love this series and own all of the audiobooks as well as a couple other James best novels. He is a very capable author and the story moves along at a great pace. This particular book has some unnecessary vulgar language that I don't remember hearing in some of the other books.

Any additional comments?
This is book 4 in the series and was the first one I was given the opportunity to listen to. The story is captivating with just the right amount of detail to engage you. Steve Dancy is one of those characters that you want to switch places with, taking on challenges with just the right tools and smarts. After I listened to this I quickly bought the first 3 books and I am excited for Book 5 and 6 which I have not yet read.
