Historia
Joe Leaphorn may be long retired from the Navajo Tribal Police, but his detective skills are still sharp, honed by his work as a private detective. His experience will be essential to solve a compelling new case: finding the birth parents of a woman who was raised by a bilagáana family but believes she is Diné based on one solid clue, an old photograph with a classic Navajo child’s blanket.

Too many story lines
Revisado: 02-08-25
This book has at least four story lines, making it unnecessarily complicated and disjointed. Character development loses out as a result. If you pay close attention you will notice characters saying things that contradict their earlier statements, or asking questions when they already know the answer. Certain obvious gimmicks are used (I won't give it away but ask yourself if you didn't catch the one involving the dead person).
The narrator was a poor choice. She read the story in such a way that I often could not make out which character was speaking in a dialogue.

Warm and Witty
Revisado: 01-30-25
This is the third in a series and I suggest starting with the first. As usual the three protagonists are fun, albeit perhaps a bit predictable. The author has a way with words and some enjoyable turns of phrases. The narrator is really quite splendid, each character has a distinctive voice. The story was a bit longer than it needed to be with the sleuths pursuing one blind alley after another.

Historia
On a rocky beach in the southwest of Ireland, the body of Jimmy O’Reilly, sixty-nine years old and dressed in a suit and his dancing shoes, is propped on a boulder, staring sightlessly out to sea. A cryptic message is spelled out next to the body with sixty-nine polished black stones and a discarded vial of deadly veterinarian medication lies nearby. Jimmy was a wealthy racehorse owner, known far and wide as The Dancing Man. In a town like Dingle, everyone knows a little something about everyone else. But dig a bit deeper, and there’s always much more to find.

Belaboured
Revisado: 01-27-25
This book needs a good editor. The story is reasonably interesting but there is a lot of repetition - yes, yes, the protagonist is short and has been teased and ridiculed because of it. This point was brought up again and again. There's way too much time spent on minor characters (and there's a lot of them). And sometimes the dialogue provokes a shake of the head. A good editor with a critical eye would improve the book.
The narrator is okay - it's a read through, not a performance, and occasionally the enunciation is sloppy.

No surprises
Revisado: 01-12-25
The audience for this book is someone who is really into weapons, martial arts and tech. And who admires the strong, silent, unattached, unbelievably wealthy and independent hero. The story line is not new - "orphans" pulled into a black ops government program that trains and brain washes them into becoming assassins.
The performance was not bad. It must have been a challenge to sound excited and on edge during some of the fight scenes with all the asides about what style of martial art where being used.

Belabor the point much?
Revisado: 11-19-24
The author wants to make sure you have not missed anything so everything is explained in excruciating detail. There's no mystery here, just a lot of explanation to make certain you really do understand all the plot points and the nitty gritty (or should I say grisly) details. I fast forwarded fairly often and still got it. The protagonist is an ah shucks kinda guy who lives in a trailer with his four dogs and is slower than the reader in putting the pieces together. The romantic interest is a bit more savvy although foolhardy and hopefully moves on after this book.

What a Jerk!
Revisado: 11-10-24
I have never fast forwarded as much through any book. Win is an okay character as a bit player in the Myron mysteries but as a protagonist in his own right, he is pretty disgusting. If he's the author's alter ego that's sad. The narrator was fine.

Historia
A successful film professor and podcaster, Bodie Kane is content to forget her past—the family tragedy that marred her adolescence, her four largely miserable years at a New Hampshire boarding school, and the murder of her former roommate, Thalia Keith, in the spring of their senior year. Though the circumstances surrounding Thalia’s death and the conviction of the school’s athletic trainer, Omar Evans, are hotly debated online, Bodie prefers—needs—to let sleeping dogs lie.

Revisado: 04-27-23
I didn't find the overly self involved protagonist relatable. Too much angst. And I found it hard to keep the characters straight as the timeline flipped around a lot. In the end I quit with about 7 hours to go. I checked out the last chapter but still had no idea who the murderer was.

In Gerrardsville, Colorado, a woman dies under the wheels of a moving bus. The death is ruled a suicide. But Jack Reacher saw what really happened: A man in a gray hoodie and jeans, moving stealthily, pushed the victim to her demise—before swiftly grabbing the dead woman’s purse and strolling away.

Convoluted
Revisado: 11-04-22
There are many villains and multiple storylines crossing each other and Reacher in this book. It might be easier to follow in print but it is too convoluted as an audiobook. The narrator is okay except for the performance as the teenager who I grew to really dislike by the end (even though he's supposed to be a sympathetic character). The voicing of that part was over the top.
As for the plot, it's the same as usual. Reacher is on the road, involves himself in a situation, punches people in the face, in the back of the head, behind their ears, in the solar plexus.... remains unbruised. himself despite multiple opponents and several dire situations. There's a female character who is pretty much just there to drive Reacher. Body count between Reacher and the bad guys is high.

Historia
Fenner burned Rosenfeld’s message, reminding himself wryly that he was behaving in the very best tradition. This was a game not too difficult to learn, he thought. A game? A game in deadly earnest. A vacation in Venice that was grim business. A girl constantly beside him who wasn’t his. How the hell had he walked into this upside-down world? Where, he wondered suddenly, would Venice lead?

So glad Helen McInnes' novel are audiobooks!
Revisado: 10-23-22
Helen McInnes' well crafted political suspense novels, with the fascist and communist villains and damaging propagandist lies, are surprisingly relevant today and a satisfying listen. I look forward to the release of more titles and hope the publisher continues to choose good performers.

Historia
New York, 2061: The place called the Pleasure Academy is a living nightmare where abducted girls are trapped, trained for a life of abject service while their souls are slowly but surely destroyed. Dorian, a thirteen-year-old runaway who’d been imprisoned there, might never have made it out if not for her fellow inmate Mina, who’d hatched the escape plan. Mina was the more daring of the two—but they’d been equally desperate.

Such a tired story
Revisado: 10-08-22
This series is so formulaic now. There's no character growth (seriously doesn't Dallas know that Roarke loves her by now?) and do we really need another sex slave story? Abused prepubescent girls snatched off the street, groomed and sold for nasty men's pleasure. So not new. Plodding detective work, stock villains and victims, predictable ending.
