This was great! Everyone was totally in-character to the original series! I loved all the little throwbacks to the original series! Loved the ending being left open for potential sequels. Would love to see all members of the fanged four back in action!! Also, I particularly enjoyed that it stayed in canon and no history from the original series was re-written while still righting some wrongs.

I was so looking forward to this, but was disappointed. The character of Sadie really grated on my nerves. I can’t put my finger on it, but there was something unlikable about her. I hated the book within a book thing too. I get the author was trying for an inception type thing, but it just didn’t work for me.

A very detailed and interesting in-depth look at the case and the trial! A good read if you’re interested in true crime/psychology. Despicable that she is out now.

Overall a good, detailed account of the case. The thing that irked me though is that the author repeatedly brings up and focuses on the weight of Ellen and her friends. There is no need for this, her weight did not contribute to her crimes!

Very interesting read. However, at times the narrator’s mispronunciation of words was annoying. Worth a listen is you’re interested in John Douglas, true crime, serial killers, or BTK.

Overall, an interesting read. Hearing from the defense attorney’s perspective was interesting and gave me insight on how they can do their jobs. It is clear that early on they convince themselves of their version of events and justify a lot by reverting back to law and loopholes in the law rather than morality. I agree with the authors’ assertion that Gacy was insane, however do not agree that the insanity made him not guilty. Despite being insane (all serial killers have to be to do those things) Gacy clearly knew the difference between right and wrong and chose to commit the horrific crimes he did. One piece of the book however, that I found appalling was how the author proudly described how he tore down a transgender woman on the stand! He categorized her as a liar and her entire testimony as a lie because of the fact that she was transgender and therefore lying about her gender. I understand that was likely a prevailing viewpoint of the day during the trial, however, the fact that the author boasted about this at the time of publication in 2013 was horrific. This was not the first time the author’s opinion disturbed me in the book, despite his offering a unique viewpoint.

This is a good account of the Israel Keyes case. I especially enjoyed the focus of how the author kept the victims at the forefront. And not just the murder victims but families and law enforcement as well.

Very interesting listen if you enjoy true crime. I really was not a fan of the narrator. Having heard the author speak in various formats I wish they would have chosen a narrator with a similar voice and inflection as the author. However, this did not deter me from listening as the content was very intriguing.

Wow, this did not disappoint! As the author promised, the reader was left guessing until the end. I hope there is more to come from Ashley Flowers. I was already a fan of hers from the podcast world, and she could certainly make it for herself in the author world as well.

SPOILER ALERT:
How could you leave us on that ending?? What happens to Margot and will January’s killer even face justice??

I know Ashley is the biggest crime junkie of all, and I definitely got some JonBenet Ramsay vibes. With the murdered dance queen (pageant queen) who was dressed up beyond her age. And the world believing the mother did it (or possibly the brother), but there’s a lingering intruder theory. Also, I know Ashley has avoided covering that case. Is this why? Was it part of the inspiration for her debut novel?

Just to add, my original theory that I’d come up with was that Margot’s father was the bio dad and had killed Krissy. I figured out the Jodi as the mystery woman from right after she was introduced in Krissy’s story.

This was a great listen for anyone like me, who cannot forget the terrible tragedy of the loss of little Caylee Anthony’s life. The book gave great reviews of evidence as well as accounts and details that were told but not permitted into the trial itself. My only conflict of the book was the fact that at times the author’s own arrogance showed and he waxed and waned between that and giving credit where due. Overall though, very interesting.
