Engaging and enlightening
Revisado: 09-25-24
Reading this a few years after the fact proved to be interesting and enlightening, but also disconcerting.
Being reminded of the long list of drump’s extreme actions in the days immediately following his inauguration was depressing and disheartening. Likewise, revisiting the travesty of the Kavanaugh hearings and his subsequent appointment to the Supreme Court.
But this book is a wonderful insight into Kamala Harris’ background and life, and ultimately I felt very uplifted and hopeful for the future.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

It’s not news that women have been denied the same educational and institutional opportunities, resources, and access as men, and that science’s history is often told through the stories of great men, with a few great women making an appearance here and there. But that approach misses the big picture. The history of science isn’t complete without women.

Very good presentation of women who had to fight to be seen and heard, and whose accomplishments go largely unnoticed within the scientific community and the public at large.

Historia
In the 1850s, the young Frederick Law Olmsted was adrift, a restless farmer and dreamer in search of a mission. He found it as an undercover correspondent in the South for the up-and-coming New York Times. For the Connecticut Yankee, pen name "Yeoman", the South was alien, often hostile territory. Yet Olmsted traveled for 14 months, by horseback, steamboat, and stagecoach, seeking dialogue and common ground. Tony Horwitz rediscovers Yeoman Olmsted amidst the discord and polarization of our own time. Is America still one country?

I loved this
Revisado: 01-31-23
Mr Horwitz did a wonderful job presenting his experiences, at times in hilarious fashion, and there are many instances here where we relearn what were previous misconceptions, which is always a good thing.
As an avowed lover of nature and preserving green space, I loved learning about Frederick Olmsted’s lifelong interest in this, and his work toward that end.
