Historia
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge. Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

I liked the distinct characters. I was able to identify some of the writers style
Revisado: 02-04-24
I liked the distinct characters. I enjoyed the author’s talented writing style which is why I chose this book after reading the stunning, The Silent Patient. The way he tells a story is definitive, relatable, easily understood and felt. The specific details seem simple and are expressed in a comfortably casual manner and flow so authentically that I find myself absorbed into the setting, present and observing the experience like a people watcher. The overall story was very dark and I had difficulty enduring it. I thought that the character transitions were unrealistically inconsistent with their roles. The scenarios did not make sense, converge, or support the story. I did not find this book exciting or surprising but implausible

Strength and persistence of the human condition
Revisado: 01-30-24
This book delicately delivered multiple aspects of education and inspiration. The messages of stoically moving through strife, empowering a faithful work ethic as a privilege, and earning respect by asserting confidence and engaging empathetically with everyone, were reiterated and meaningfully compounded throughout. In addition to the opportunities for new learning and growth, the book was enjoyable holding my interest with relatability exposing the spectrum of the human condition. Sensory and specific details kept me present in the story setting but the author was selectively sparing in the more severe incidents.
There are many historical horrors that must be acknowledged but are often difficult to observe through reading, more distressing to imagine and unfathomable to experience. This author included these events objectively along with factual documentation. Then, instead of a descriptive detailing of that events setting, he noted the effect and feelings of the character who had experienced it, thereby granting the reader leniency and an opportunity to reflect and absorb within their ability. Often it is the furtherest removed from such experiences that are the most unaware of others plights because their own personal perception is limited. When a protected and privileged person attempts to discern the disposition of another so different and disadvantaged, they are often disconcerted as dark truths are felt and formulated into the reality of a profound pain that was implausible and remains unacceptable. When occurrences cannot be observed, understood, or acknowledged due to fear, shock, shame, helplessness, or disbelief, we disengage in denial back into the comfort of complacency. We cannot always completely realize the condition of another, yet it deserves a respectful acknowledgment. Apprehension and ignorance inhibit understanding and connections. The author accommodates us through weakness so that we can further our understanding and remain open to the unknown, and potentially nurture evolvement.
This art work of cognition was so considerately and carefully constructed that I was committed to continue on to the conclusion. This was a very worthwhile read/listen and I am enriched and improved by it.

This book unashamedly revealed the raw human nature of people. It showed the ugly in the assumed virtuous and the beauty and humor in the shunned unattractive. The story captured my focus raptly and the ending left me satiated and fulfilled to the point where I actually felt physically full , content and proud for the heroin.

Historia
If Joe and Vicky had known what relocating to a tiny mountain village in Andalucía would really be like, they might have hesitated. They can have no idea of the culture shock in store for them...no idea they'll become reluctant chicken farmers and own the most dangerous cockerel in Spain...no idea they'll help capture a vulture and be rescued by a mule. Will they stay, or will they return to the relative sanity of England?

Loved the diverse and unique characters. This book was warm, authentic and uplifting. It was so funny that I laughed out loud for much of it and could not stop for a few minutes at the church scene. I’m appreciative of the writer and the narrators mastered art and talent for expressing the genuine human experience so beautifully. I look forward to more in the series.

Disturbingly peaceful
Revisado: 03-10-23
I’d say it was thought provoking but I don’t know what to think. It was mind blowing, ironic and it demonstrated the boring to the extreme manic behaviors of humans completely acceptable and showed with honesty like I’ve never read before, the potential flaws we all fear.

Words. We use them all the time, every day, mostly without giving them much thought at all. We take for granted that they’re here at our disposal whenever we need them. But if you’ve ever wished you could communicate more effectively, words are the place to start. It’s incumbent upon you to choose the best words to accomplish your goals, because how you choose to communicate influences—well, everything! The power of communication shapes our professional goals, our relationships, and our lives—so the words we choose to use carry a great deal of power.

Eve has her own story, and she's been waiting millennia for Barbara McBride-Smith to tell it. It's the same for Mrs. Noah. Talk about misunderstood or under-appreciated women! McBride-Smith singles them out for her trademark feminist humor. And following Eve and Mrs. Noah's stories are four of McBride-Smith's retellings of Greek myths from her West Texas good-ole-girl perspective.

How is this woman not more well known and why hasn’t she done more? This read/listen was honest, fun, and relatably real. The author genuinely takes on events of every man’s life from history to now, gives perspective and appreciation for both mens and womens uniqueness and gifts, and reveals a respect for individual human experiences with humility, humor and potential power to strengthen and heal from the inevitable injuries encountered. Love it when a lady isn’t too demure to show grit

Historia
The final novel from a great American storyteller. Donal Cameron is being raised by his grandmother, the cook at the legendary Double W ranch in Ivan Doig's beloved Two Medicine Country of the Montana Rockies, a landscape that gives full rein to an 11-year-old's imagination. But when Gram has to have surgery for "female trouble" in the summer of 1951, all she can think to do is to ship Donal off to her sister in faraway Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

This book really makes the most of each pain and pleasure one encounters in life, showing each as a lesson and a gift. Through the many diverse imperfect characters and compromising conflicts encountered, the story is relatable and heartfelt and gives courage to this reader that there is hope in every experience.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

I appreciate the authors work here in this heartfelt novel portraying a very different human experience that I’ve always been baffled by. I can relate to Olivia’s well meaning curiosity and respect Lilly’s right to “just be” without label or disclosure. I learned a great deal and I hope the book will reach many others like myself
