Historia
Petra Grady has known since adolescence that she has no talent for magic—and that’s never going to change. But as a sweeper first-class, she’s parlayed her rare ability to handle dross—the damaging, magical waste generated by her more talented kin’s spellwork—into a decent life working at the mages’ university. Except Grady’s relatively predictable life is about to be upended.

A good Read
Revisado: 08-13-24
I thought the magic systems was interesting and the worldbuilding intriguing.
A great narrator always helps and I thought this one did a great job bringing the right nuance to the story.
The only reason it is not 5 stars in the 'young read' type of dialog. Yes, they are young people and yes, they are sometimes sappy and melodramatic but it was a bit overdone on some places.
Looking forward to the next installment

Historia
The strong races rule the galaxy, doing as they please. The weak are enslaved or driven from their homeworlds or simply exterminated by the ruling powers. The Solar Union's only hope of survival is to master GalTech and improve upon it before the Galactics realize the human race is no longer trapped on a primitive world, at the mercy of any spacefaring race who stumbles across it. But GalTech keeps its secrets close, and time is not on humanity's side.

I like the storyline, but I could do without the repetition
Revisado: 06-09-24
I get it. The author thinks the world is a mess and every established institution sucks.
Name some me in that position
But I don’t need to hear it 47 times while he’s relating the story
I like the premise of the books
I like the stories
I think the narrator is top-notch
I hope you write more. I just go easy on the morality lessons.

Not the best narrator, a reasonable tale
Revisado: 03-07-24
Didn’t really care for the narrator
He was somewhat monotone and made everything come out a bit whiny when he should’ve been giving emotion.
Story itself is not as strong as Cartwright Cavaliers, but interesting nonetheless
Some reason the author felt he needed to kill off any interesting characters

Historia
Null Stellarium is more than a shipyard. It's a proving ground steeped with science and engineering designed to push warships faster than ever before, and armed to confront the growing menace of a universe where everything is influenced by a hidden evil. As Van and his crew grow into their new roles, Perry unlocks a memory that reaches into the very beginning of the Tudor family's service nearly a century earlier. But sometimes, the truth is hidden for a reason, and Van must decide—How much does he really want to know? And how far can he take his ship, knowing there's a price on his head?

Historia
In the distant future, corporations have become sustainable communities with their own militaries, and corporate goals have essentially replaced political ideology. On a youthful, rebellious impulse, Lawrence joined the military of a corporation that he now recognizes to be ruthless and exploitative. His only hope for escape is to earn enough money to buy his place in a better corporation.

Interesting story, odd performance
Revisado: 05-18-18
I enjoyed the story, it was hard to follow at times due to blending scenes/chapters/event changes.
I have listened to this performer before and not had this issue. It kept me backtracking on parts to make sense of things.

Historia
United Nations Special Operations Command sent an elite expeditionary force of soldiers and pilots out on a simple recon mission, and somehow along the way they sparked an alien civil war. Now the not-at-all-merry band of pirates is in desperate trouble, again. Their stolen alien starship is falling apart, thousands of light years from home. The ancient alien AI they nicknamed Skippy is apparently dead, and even if they can by some miracle revive him, he might never be the same.

Getting Repetative
Revisado: 02-12-18
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I really enjoy these books but the author has to build some additional & unique plot lines into the stories.
This book suffered from 1) impossible situation 2) stupid monkeys/etc 3) sad moments/introspection 4) stupid monkey idea 5) fabricated supertech fix. Repeat for 10 hour narrative.
I like the characters, I think the narrator is perfect for the material but the author needs to stretch and present a better storyline. I WANT him to do better.
Another like this and I wont bother to buy/read the next.
Would you ever listen to anything by Craig Alanson again?
yes
Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Good
Was Zero Hour worth the listening time?
Meh
Any additional comments?
Awesome opportunity to do some great things with this universe and cast of characters.

A short story stretched too thin
Revisado: 04-16-17
What disappointed you about Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen?
LMB is a gifted writer. One that can make paint drying interesting. This at best is a short story. If feels stretched. Lightly interesting and a chance to visit the characters as old friends but nothing particularly new or interesting.
Have you listened to any of Grover Gardner’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He was the one high point in this audio book, his performance carried the lighter material.the
What character would you cut from Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen?
Cetaganden storyline really went nowhere
Any additional comments?
An interesting universe, populated with interesting characters. This would have been better shorter maybe combined with other short stories into a compilation.

Historia
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Good Story, good performance
Revisado: 08-10-16
Where does Warship rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Solid story, reasonable plot. Not one of the greats but a good story
What did you like best about this story?
Making use of what they had. No magic 'and then they engaged the inter-dimensional zap ray'
Which character – as performed by Mark Boyett – was your favorite?
Wolfe: but I confess to having a hard time forgetting I wasnt listen to the BV Larson books that Boyett did.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
In a fight to the death, you use what you have.
