The Nest is a terrific beginning to the "Paperbacks From Hell" series from Valancourt Books.

The narration was excellent and perfectly paced to keep the suspense building up to the finale.

The story starts off with a bang and only occasionally lets the reader relax a little.

I can't wait to read/hear more in the series!

Book 4 provides mostly backstory which was much needed, but it was difficult to be taken away from the time line that ended book 3.

The story told was very compelling, and made for a great read.

I'm taking the time to go back and re-read some of the related stories that will play a large role in the final 3 volumes of the Dark Tower.

If you are struggling with book 1, don't give up. The series has become an excellent ride.

I enjoyed both "Elevation" and the bonus story "Laurie." Elevation is the better of the stories, but it doesn't approach King's best work.

The highlight of this release is getting to listen to SK narrate his own stories.

Take note that Elevation is a very short novella, and not really a novel in my opinion. Neither story was horror.

Recommended to fans of King's non-horror short stories.

I loved Little Girls. It combines elements of haunted house, ghost, psychological horror, mystery, and human monsters into a great read.

Ronald Malfi writes characters who react to difficult situations in believable ways.

Cassandra Campbell is a good choice for narrator. My only issue was that the male voices sometimes weren't believable.

Malfi gradually reveals details that build possibilities that lead to a terrific ending.

Highly recommended to fans of suspense/horror.

Would you try another book from Stephen King and/or George Guidall?

Being a big fan of Stephen King's early work, I've waited a long time to read the Dark Tower series of books. Long ago, I refused to read any of them until he completed the series because of the "Golden Years" television miniseries that was started, and never completed. Then the accident happened, and it seemed like I had made the correct decision in waiting.I had not listened to anything narrated by George Guidall prior to The Gunslinger. It took me longer than normal to get used to his style. I had to read along in my printed copy of the book to be able to get into the story. This went on for about 20% of the book. After that, I was able to get into the story just by listening. If you are like me, and you aren't sure that you want to continue reading the series after The Gunslinger, I would recommend sticking it out for The Drawing of the Three. It reads much more like a Stephen King story.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

For book one in an epic (even for SK) series, The Gunslinger uses lots of flashbacks to tell it's story. From what I have been told, many of the seemingly random occurrences in this book will mean something if re-read after reading the entire series. I guess we'll see...

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Older fans of SK will be intrigued by the appearance of Randall Flagg aka The Man in Black. Flagg is a key character in The Stand by SK.Another interesting character is Jake, a young boy who travels with Roland (The Gunslinger) for a large portion of the story.

Any additional comments?

Overall, The Gunslinger was sort of a long prelude to the series, and suffered from dull and somewhat confusing moments (mostly in the first half). It does introduce us to key characters who will be living in this story for many books to come.

I first read "Swan Song" when it was a brand new paperback. Now, all these years later, I just finished the excellent audio version narrated by Tom Stechschulte.

Robert McCammon somehow keeps this epic story interesting and exciting from start to finish. It begins with a bang, and settles in to tell the stories of small groups of survivors as they struggle to stay alive in unimaginable conditions.

The narration is engrossing and captures the tone of the material perfectly.

As a longtime fan of Michael McDowell, I was thrilled when Valancourt Books began reprinting his largely forgotten novels from the 80s. The Elementals is their first audiobook to be released of his work.

McDowell's knack for writing believable Southern dialog is amazing. His dark sense of humor runs throughout the Elementals.

And when it comes to pure horror, no one can top McDowell's concise yet visually descriptive writing. He was simply one of the best ever published in the horror genre.

R. C. Bray does a wonderful job narrating McDowell's words, and bringing the character's to life.

I highly recommend The Elementals, whether you choose the printed version or the excellent audio book.

Listening to the author read his story was thrilling. Do not miss this opportunity.

I was swept into London Underground along with Richard, and now that the story has ended I am trapped in that limbo between our reality and the reality created by the author.

I loved this story. I loved the characters. I loved the performance of the material.
