Stupid ending

This was not a complete story. It feels like he just stopped writing when he hit his deadline for his contract. Generally speaking, I like this series and I like this character, but it would be nice to get complete story arcs in each book please. At this point in the story, the author clearly articulates that there will be 5 levels to the current dungeon, and for some reason the author stops after the fourth. This is gonna further complicate the next book because he’s gonna have to complete the story before he can move forward with the next. What a stupid decision from an editing and publishing perspective. Do better.

Sophomoric writing

I really wanted to like this book but this series has continued to deteriorate more and more every single book. This one is now the worst. Very disappointing. No meaningful story arc, way too much irrelevant world building, and ridiculously simplistic notation style character development. Show me, don’t tell me. Tell a story, don’t tell me about the story. The book feels like a narration of the outline before the actual story is written.

Is this really in the AKU?

This was a very slow starting story that was all back story and explaining the new magic system. It has no obvious relationship to the other AKU magic system other than the name “labyrinth”. Everything else is different. As soon as the actual story started to make progress, it was over. It like this is only 1/2 a book. Usually the Doc has a good structure to his story arc. A hook in the beginning, a climax at the end, and it’s a complete story even though there are other arcs that carry into future books. Not this one. Disappointing.

Slow start

Had to push through the first half do to lack of interest initially, but the story and the RPG mechanics finally kicked in and now I’m willing to go on to book 2.

Fantastic next episode

Moves the story forward very well. You must already like his writing or you wouldn’t be on book 16 so just know that this episode wraps up several story lines and sets up several more. I can’t wait for the next one!

Like watching a train wreck

I honestly can’t believe I’m still listening to this series. This one is a complete train wreck. Please for the love of all that is holly let the next JRR Martin book drop soon or at least let the next Sanderson book. I blame this on Aleron Kong. If he would just keep writing, there would be no need to dumpster dive like this.

The worst

Imagine a really good LitRPG book with great character development, world building, fun RPG dungeons, an interesting magic system and unique plot. Then take all that away except the dungeon, and what you have left is this book. I think I lost about 12 IQ points listening to this. I can’t believe I finished it actually. I guess it did help me fall asleep at night.

Depressing

I don’t mind a story about characters who have to work through hardships but I don’t particularly enjoy when nothing good ever happens. This is just one long story about suffering. Who wants to listen to that? For heavens sake let a few good things happen would you? This just makes me want to slit my wrists and make it all stop.
