Historia
This book explores the evolutionary roots of loving our team and hating the enemy team, and why groupish caveman instincts linger in our minds today. It answers: If tribalism is hardwired into us, what changed in the last twenty years? How did partisanship get so loud, toxic, and obnoxious, and ruin last Thanksgiving? Finally, it says what we can do about it as individuals navigating relationships, and as society as a whole.

Well timed for Thanksgiving conversations to be less homicidal!
Revisado: 11-20-24
A book worth your time. A humorous examination of both the historical and evolutionary psychological connection to partisanship. Basically, an examination of why we form into teams and why those teams want to stab each other with broken glass bottles.
Narrated by the author in a clear and precise way that makes it enjoyable for listening.

Historia
American Zion is the story of the Bundy family, famous for their armed conflicts in the West. With an antagonism that goes back to the very first Mormons who fled the Midwest for the Great Basin, they hold a sense of entitlement that confronts both law and democracy. Today their cowboy confrontations threaten public lands, wild species, and American heritage.

A Let Down
Revisado: 03-26-24
It's written like the offspring of an owner's manual and a child's book report. I kept waiting for a lager point and none came. Read a few articles on Cliven Bundy and you can save yourself the time I wasted on this book. Also, the narrator sounds like a bad AI.

Historia
The most recent state to join the union, Hawaii is the only one to have once been a royal kingdom. After its discovery by Captain Cook in the late 18th century, Hawaii was fought over by European powers determined to take advantage of its position as the crossroads of the Pacific. The arrival of the first missionaries marked the beginning of the struggle between a native culture with its ancient gods, sexual libertinism, and rites of human sacrifice and the rigid values of the Calvinists.

Very interesting book. The author gives a complete overview of the history of Hawaii. Giving the motivations and historical facts from both the European colonizers and native population. Great information to understand where we've come from and what problems we need to deal with.

Revisado: 02-03-23
The content is there however the professor presenting this lecture is not good. I had to speed it up because of his slow talking. His stream of consciousness style presentation feels like he's trying to think about the next word he's saying constantly.

Historia
Do the lessons passed down to us by history, lessons whose origins may lie hundreds, even thousands of years in the past, still have value for us today? Is Santayana's oft-repeated saying, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," merely a way to offer lip service to history as a teacher-or can we indeed learn from it? And if we can, what is it that we should be learning?

Historia
Without even realizing it, we all use the fruits of political philosophy. From liberty to democracy to community, the terms and concepts originated by political philosophers are ingrained in our global consciousness. Yet many of us have an incomplete picture of how these ideas developed and, quite possibly, a skewed perception of their intentions and implications. This highly relevant course sheds light on the labyrinth of Western political and social theory, as well as its influence on modern history.

Historia
At stake in 1896 was the new idea that some landscapes should be collectively, permanently owned by a democratic government. Although many people today think of public lands as an American birthright, their very existence was then in doubt and dependent on a merger of the talents of these two men. Natural Rivals examines a time of environmental threat and political dysfunction not unlike our own and reveals the complex dynamic that gave birth to America’s rich public lands legacy.

Fascinating History of Colorado Mining
Revisado: 09-06-22
I listen to this on my way up to Colorado from Arizona. The narrator does an amazing job. The book is well researched and full of many facts. The history is presented in a compelling narrative from early mining to modern times. However, the presentation of these facts is done as if one is sitting through a lecture with a professor. I found each chapter compelling and interesting.
