Very good book that helps explain my experience in this as a black man married to a white woman with 2 mixed kids. Sometimes you need to hear a club member articulate the rulebook and inside conversations to you. What you may not be able to change at least you can understand the nuances of racism and the legs that were built for it to stand on.

The best most real stories I’ve heard

I did not know what to expect I just liked Bernie Mac and another book he was in. This was a very heartfelt story of growth, hard times, persistence, and success. I never really knew he worked so hard to be as good as he was. He works very hard in general doing labor with a good work ethic. I would love to have him as a mentor or a person to talk to, but now he’s gone. Another great one gone too soon, but he left this gem for us to cherish and learn from.

I read this after Viola Davis’ Finding Me and it has continued to show me the power of survivors. It is great she has overcome and didn’t die in her circumstances. Great listen. I’ll carry this with me.

What a glorious and timely story

I did not know what to expect with this book but I am so glad that I listened to it. Throughout difficulties in life sometimes you just need to hear somebody else’s story of how they overcame. Thank you Viola for writing this book and telling us your story. Thank you so much for baring your heart and telling us how you overcame. Highly, highly recommended.

Great addition to white fragility

My friends tell me that I can put some things into words that nobody can. This is what Robin does so greatly. She takes a steady work woman type approach with examples and background to explain to white progressives why they don’t get a pass on being racists just for being liberals. Great listen. I, a black man, am better for it.

Excellent report card on the current state of affairs

This is a current report card on the state of affairs, where we have come from, and where we are aiming to go. This answered a lot of questions for me even as a black man. Thank you for everyone involved for undertaking this project. Very culturally relevant.
