Such a great read plus Excellent information. These types of illnesses are scattered through some of my loved ones. I could relate but also learned new things. The author did an Amazing job of bringing the events to life on paper.
Sadly, we don't all have the same resources such as supportive family, finances, and even intelligence or education, status, etc. The line about "winning the lottery" is absolutely correct. Doctors will not listen to "everyone" You also have to wonder about the pharmaceutical ties some doctors have and the influence it has over their choices in medication. I've seen horrible psychiatrists that will react to what patients say during psychosis and treat them badly. SERIOUSLY .
if not for the husband and his commitment to his family, it could've turned out quite differently. The commitment of the extended family allowed him to be there for her.
The stigma will probably never go away. But here's hoping that it will lessen over generations. I also think that medical researchers don't spend enough time and money trying to develop better meds for this. The side effects keep people from wanting to take their meds. Seems like people with mental illness are just not important enough to our society.

Although much of the book is a historical account of political actions and decisions over his first term, the unfolding of the personal stories and the people involved were among my favorite parts. The road to being elected was such a rewarding tale of the "underdog" who becomes victorious! He is an excellent story teller. I was literally on the edge of my seat while he told the story of extracting Osama bin Laden from Pakistan. I truly appreciate that Barack Obama took the time to narrate this book as his voice is such a comfort to me. Much of his time in office was met with such opposition from the GOP that I have lost all respect for many of them. The inside scoop gave me a glimpse into how politics and the media operate in this country. The way that the first lady was treated also makes me angry and embarrassed for our country and the media. Readers get a first glimpse into the political rise of Donald Trump and how that can possibly even happen. Many of our citizens love drama and controversy like staring at a horrible car crash. Overall, this book can be a little hard to follow if you aren't politically savvy, but it's worth hanging in there until the end. Thank you for writing this book Mr. President! I'm so proud that we had you for two terms. 😁
