Disappointing Little Green Men First Contact Novel
Revisado: 11-06-16
IF you like fist contact stories like the name sake for Star Trek or the Carl Sagan book this is not for you. If you like international intrigue and the back story behind the actual "discovery" and you can wade through the minutiae behind the discovery, the media take and all the intricate little nuances that would probably happen for a story like this, then this book is for you. Don't get me wrong, the story telling is good. Characters are well defined and you actually want them to succeed. However Not Alone is not a good first contact book. Of the 20 plus hours of story telling the actual discovery is compacted in just a few short hours. It took me over a month of travel time back and forth to work to get through this and although I would not call bad it certainly did not live up to the name.I found myself actually glad it was over so i could move on to my next novel.

Heechee Saga is well written and worth the listen
Revisado: 08-13-14
Mr. Pohls examination of humanity in the form of Robin Broadhead wrapped up in a Sci Fi classic from the 70's is as home today in our computer tablet and smart phone world as it was back in 1977 when it was first released in print. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this Hugo and Nebula award winning book and it re reminded me of why I took up sci fi reading all those years ago. Gateway was one of my favorite books from my teens and now as an adult and with the help of audible and Oliver Wymans expert reading of the voice of Sigmund, Robinette and all the others gives real vision to an already excellently written story. I had forgotten the subtle emotional and psychological nuances between all of his characters. Years before sophisticated computer programs Mr. Pohls artistic telling of the story of Gateway and it's computer generated and real life flawed personalities will make you smile and is a story you will not want to put down nor soon forget. I digested each of the Heechee saga books in turn and actually parceled out bits and pieces of it as to not get done with it too quickly. You must savor this trilogy like a fine wine.

Justin does it again with The Twelve
Revisado: 10-31-12
Where does The Twelve: A Novel rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have 2 other books that I consider perfect they are in order The Passage written by Justin Cronin and 11-22-63 by Stephen King. My follow ups are Roboapocalypse and World War Z. Now that you know a little bit of what I like, I can tell you that The Twelve (Currently listening to and almost finished) lives up to the well thought out story we were used to in The Passage. Where his first book introduces us to some of the main characters we have grown to love and miss in the twelve Justin takes them all (including some new lovable ones) to new levels. His balance and descriptive writing coupled with Scott Bricks voice lends brilliance to this followup novel on so many levels. LIke the first book i find myself partaking in the listen in small tasty nuggets not wanting to make a gluten of myself and find myself on the last page too soon. Justins writing is compariable to the great Sci Fi writers (or Horror) of our day and i recommend this followup book immensly.
What other book might you compare The Twelve: A Novel to and why?
Very similar to his first book but gives you much more bredth and width of the story of the years after year Zero
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
He does not so much change his voice between characters instead adding subtle inflections in the voice to lend credence to the character in question.I could not ask for a better narrator.
If you could take any character from The Twelve: A Novel out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Maybe Peter Jackson to find out more about his family, particularly his brother and his feelings towards Amy.
Any additional comments?
YOU gotta listen to this book.

Historia
Ensign Andrew Dahl has just been assigned to the Universal Union Capital Ship Intrepid, flagship of the Universal Union since the year 2456. Life couldn’t be better…until Andrew begins to pick up on the facts that (1) every Away Mission involves some kind of lethal confrontation with alien forces; (2) the ship’s captain, its chief science officer, and the handsome Lieutenant Kerensky always survive these confrontations; and (3) at least one low-ranked crew member is, sadly, always killed.

Cleaver but not what I expected
Revisado: 07-27-12
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The story was ok from a sci fi point of view and cleaverly written but not what I was expecting as an avid Trek Fan from the 60's, I certainly expected red shirts to die in this novel and they did but to be "written off" so to speak from a 20th century writter as the premise for the book did not sit well with me
Would you recommend Redshirts to your friends? Why or why not?
Only those non die hard Trek Fans, i may be wrong since i read so many good reviews about the book (and the reason I listened in the first place), it just did not sit well with me and this was my first Scalzi novel
What three words best describe Wil Wheaton’s voice?
PG-13 rated Ensign Wesley Crusher
Could you see Redshirts being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No the story is not well written enough for this, no way would i want to see 20th century writers fill the story line for a psuedo star trek universe
Any additional comments?
As many people wrote the book is well written and cleaver but if your looking for trek-esk sci fi adventure this book is not for you.....and I could of done without the codas...

Multiple Stories that tie up loose ends
Revisado: 07-02-12
What made the experience of listening to Joe Ledger: The Missing Files the most enjoyable?
I like Jonathan Maberry and his action packed and scientific based stories.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
It's multiple stories so its not a full length novel. I might have enjoyed listening to one file extended out just a bit but I understand why the book was written or at least published in the form that it was.
Have you listened to any of Ray Porter???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Ray Porter is up there with some of the best.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No maybe 3 sittings
Any additional comments?
For those of you that are wanting to tie up some loose ends in the Joe Ledger Series this book is for you, but if you did not listen to the first 3 stories prior to this book, you will be lost.

When you have to kill the same terrorist twice in one week there’s either something wrong with your world or something wrong with your skills - and there’s nothing wrong with Joe Ledger’s skills. And that’s both a good and a bad thing. It’s good because he’s a Baltimore detective who has just been secretly recruited by the government to lead a new task force created to deal with the problems that Homeland Security can’t handle....

Zombie Al Queda with a twist
Revisado: 04-12-12
Would you listen to Patient Zero again? Why?
Well executed. Extremely well narrated. The story is weaved together tightly like a Pendlelton Wool Blanket (for you northwest folks) abosolutely no holes. I am not quite done but I would characterize Jonathan Maberry on par with Stephen King (I just listened to 11/22/63 which was one of my favorite epic novels this year). He obviously studied currrent events, terrorist cells, government agencies and Joe Ledger is a tough guy that you can like, he even has some flaws.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gault (or Galt) for his exteme ideals, Joe Ledger for being the tough guy that even goverment adgencies have to like. Finally Church for his stoic demeaner.
What about Ray Porter???s performance did you like?
Ray Porter brought the characters to life. Not sure if he narrates the other Joe Ledger books but his take on each character both male and female was flawless
If you could take any character from Patient Zero out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Grace, because she is obviously a well educated Brit with good looks and probably has a story or two to tell
Any additional comments?
I rate this book up there with Stephen Kings 11/22/63 and The Passage from Justin Cronin for the character development. I cant wait to listen to Mr Maberry's other books. I just started reading every Zombie Novel I could get my hand on and I think this one even surpassed World War Z which I am sure I will get critacism for my Zombie Blasphemy!

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Not your classic Stephen King - BETTER
Revisado: 01-20-12
Where does 11-22-63 rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?
Top 1 or 2 books
What did you like best about this story?
The Character development - I found myself wanting to know more about Jake/George and could not wait to sit in my car and listen again.
What does Craig Wasson bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
At first I did not like his voice, but as the story developed and I began to hear just how well he developed the voices and inflections for each of his characters from old crusty Al to the Jump Rope Girls to good old JFK himself he was awesome
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The past is obdurate
Any additional comments?
The best book I've listened to since The Passage by Justin Cronin - you have to read or listen to this book. I was a child of the 50's and 60's and most of the history that Mr King brought to the book took me back to the past as well. I don't read many Stephan King Novels but this book clearly puts him as one of the most endearing and best authors of our current century. His writing style, choice of words, syntax- everything about this story was clearly well thought out and I am glad he waited all these years to rewrite or finish or complete this epic tour de force. Thanks Mr King

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Character development and relationships are well written and made me want more, more, more
What other book might you compare Cell to and why?
The Passage for the same reasons as above
Which scene was your favorite?
No one scene is good or bad although there are parts that made me say YES out loud and others that made me say NO!
If you could rename Cell, what would you call it?
The Pulse
Any additional comments?
I have not read many King novels nor listened to them but I must say that this particular book hooked me in about 3 chapters and got me wanting to listen morning, noon and night. I have not finished yet so I hope I am not dissappointed in the ending but the story thus far has been stellar.

Robopocalypse is a must read (or listen)
Revisado: 07-29-11
I was hooked by Comac Wallace and his narrative excerpts of accounts on humanities struggle with Rob, as the machines are called in the robot war depicted in this book. Then I heard that it would become a movie by Spielberg and Dreamworks and knew I had a hit book in my hands. Just an hour into this excellent listen and the narrative of the "Big Happy" loosing his mind and attacking an average ice cream and yogurt jerk made me me cringe and laugh. I immediately starting telling my friends about this book. It is an excellent read. Daniel Wilsons intimate knowledge of robotics (He has a PhD in Robotics) gives a first rate sci fi adventure full of all the cool stuff we sci fi heads are looking for. Savor the book, dont waste a chapter and get it now you wont be dissapointed.

The Passage - A long journey I did not want to end
Revisado: 07-04-10
What can I say - the new Novel by Justin Cronin lives up to all the hype. It has something for everybody: Action, Fantasy, Sci Fi, love, Drama. I am on my last part and I find myself piece mealing out my listning sections a small amount at a time as if it were water from a canteen on a long hike. Justin Cronin weaves a tale that cannont be contained just on the pages it was written but comes to life in your head at the expert hands of Scott Brick whos narrative voice and inflections seems to breath life into each character. Listen to this audio book no matter what genre you like. You will be taken into a world of chaos and wonder. I loved it! and I am not even done yet!
