Great story. Not best narration.
Revisado: 03-18-25
It’s not the worst, but this person can’t pronounce ‘passage’ and had a very whiny tone. I really struggled to complete the book as she was narrating it, but Rebecca (luckily) does a good job of carrying itself despite this.

Historia
When the neighbours in question are the proud empires of Klatch and Ankh-Morpork, those are going to be some pretty large garden tools indeed. Of course, no-one would dream of starting a war without a perfectly good reason...such as a 'strategic' piece of old rock in the middle of nowhere. It is after all every citizen's right to bear arms to defend their own. Even if it isn't technically their own. And even if they don't have much in the way of actual weaponry.

Love Discworld but not this narration
Revisado: 09-18-24
On my 4th or 5th reread of the Discworld series I figured I’s give the audiobooks a try. I picked this one because the other was abridged, and although I liked other books by (I think it’s) Nigel Planer, I prefer unabridged versions.
I did not like this narration. The whispery almost desperado narration style, where every sentence ends as if the person is almost out of breath, but starts as if they are either deep in thought or deeply concerned, did not work for me.
The satire was lost, the jokes fell flat, and all the things that make us see the real world in the Discworld were missed.
I don’t think you can narrate Discworld if you are not a fan. And although I think it can be interpreted (like all books) in a number of ways, interpretation should not lose the essence. This version missed the essence in my opinion.

Historia
Even as a girl Morgan has always been wild, like the seas which batter the cliffs beneath her home, Tintagel Castle. But she has always been safe, too. Then one day her father is called away to a war from which he does not return. In his place comes the High King, Uther Pendragon, with the sorcerer Merlin lurking in his wake. Uther claims Morgan’s mother, the Lady Igraine as his queen.

Thoroughly enjoyed!
Revisado: 06-11-24
As most women are in legends and history, the character of Morgan Le Fay changes in relation to what men think of women, specifically women with power. She has been a wise councillor, a healer, a cautionary tale, a seductress, an evil temptress, and a powerful sorceress. This particular retelling shows her as a woman, strong and hungry for knowledge and to be her own person, valued and seen for her strengths, yet denied as women tended to be in the past. This is her trying her best to play the hand she was dealt and finding out who she is in a world carved by men.
Both author and narrator wove together a beautiful voice for the female icon of Arthur for women. Struggling through the hurdles of every woman out there, blind (like many women) to the ways in which other women are strong, but finding her way like few do, she becomes the archetype of women in this wonderful tale.
I am looking froward to the next instalment of her tale!

Great story, narration needs a bit of editing
Revisado: 06-30-23
I love Discworld and this recording is good, but there are a few misreadings (passage instead of package, chobels instead of cobbles), really minor stuff. It did not make the story less enjoyable, but it does take you momentarily out of it.
I don’t know if it can be edited, not with the original author, and I would rather have it with the faults in his voice than not.

Message good, narration not so much
Revisado: 04-20-23
I am grateful that I purchased the Kindle version first, then the audiobook. Not very minimalist, but different strokes.
The book has enough -isms and aha moments to make it valuable, but this audiobook is definitely not great. The narrator does not enunciate, so it sounds mumbly. The intonation and gaps is also way off.
In any case, this book is not that long; I would recommend reading it and/or listening to their podcast. It is really good if you find yourself in the throws of figuring out what matters.

Enough to entice
Revisado: 03-17-23
The recording of this heavily abridged version is either very old or very bad. The background music is not enjoyable at all, and actually grates the nerves.
However, the story is good enough and there is enough of it, for me to finally buckle down and read the Kindle version I bought a few years ago.

It’s a product of its times
Revisado: 03-13-23
This recording was done early on in the recordings of Discworld novels. It has its faults, but none that a fan won’t appreciate, perhaps even treasure. If you’re not already a fan, perhaps listen to the newer things first or even read the books.
Personally, and as an enthusiastic fan, I loved it.

Best!
Revisado: 07-31-22
I read Miss Subways back when it first came out, but have always wanted to do a reread. Fast forward to now, where I finally cave and get audible, and decide I might time for thus reread if I get the audiobook.
So I do.
And I am forever grateful I did!
He does his story full justice, and I loved every moment of it! It is fast paced, witty, sarcastic, and so so clever.
I also adore Tea Leoni, so that was an additional bonus.
Mr Duchovny has proven himself quite the writer. The story world depends on true storytellers like this.
