I have studied theology on and off for many years. IMHO, one cannot study theology thoroughly without getting into the history off the subject. In professor Cary's survey he does an excellent job off covering every base and delaying them one to another. Since i am protestant, all my studies have focused on protestant theology. i have only occasionally hit on any Catholic theology. Cary covers several primary doctrines of the Catholic Church and relates them to similar protestant doctrines. He also helped me put protestant theologians whom i have studied in perspective with protestantism as a whole. Highly recommended.

I listened to "Carnival of Snackery" first. it's the latter collection of diary entries, 2003-2020. Both volumes are delightful. i suspect that I'll listen to them both again soon. Sedaris is one of the few writers who can get a belly laugh out of me, even on things with which i disagree.

Sedaris is one of my favorite contemporary humorists. I've read most of his work, and this is no exception. i listen to most if his work because he's excellent at reading his own material. There are elements or some subjects that i don't care for, but overall, i enjoy the writing and his narration. Recommended.

I struggled to finish. I'm able to read and listen at my job, so I was able to listen to all 24 hours In a relatively short time. But I couldn't get into it. I'm not a big fan of fantasy, and this novel seemed more like fantasy. Might have enjoyed it more if it had been more succinct. Just seemed to go on and on without a point.

This final chapter of the Edge of Collapse series was different than it's predecessors. The relationship between Hannah and Liam gets somewhat saccharin, but it balances out in the end. The battle scenes are somewhat more spectacular. The dialogue and the scene settings are superb, as in the entire series.
Don't think I've mentioned the narrator one time, but she is excellent. Her variety of voices is outstanding.
As I've stated in earlier reviews, I think Stone is an excellent writer. I recommend this series. Excellent suspense.

The book was enjoyable, just not my cup of tea. Characterization is its strong suit. Nobody "Bod" Owens and Silas are particularly strong characters, but all are good and solid. Interesting plot.

I'm not a big science fiction fan, so this was a difficult listen for me. Don't think I would have made it reading. Weir must have a science background. I got bored at times.

I wasn't alive in 1928, but I can identify with small town activity. Bradbury was quite adept at turning a phrase. Even though I read "Something Wicked This Way Comes" several years ago I just recently learned that it is part of a trilogy. This is a wonderful leisure read. Anyone who wants to spend a few hours with a relaxed read, read this one.

Sidhartha in Western Guise

Not as in the American West/Western, but the Western Hemisphere. Goldmund is the Sidhartha-like character, except Goldman does no achieve enlightenment per se. Goldmund is more existential and hedonistic. Narcissus does achieve religious enlightenment in the Catholic sense. Goldmund is the primary character, the protagonist, if you will. He could even be an anti-hero.
Narcissus appears at the beginning and end of Goldmund's life and wanderings. Theirs is an enduring, passive, and spiritual love.
Narcissus' name is changed to John when he takes his priestly vows (also an allusion to Jesus' disciple "whom he loved")...for everyone except Goldmund, who interchanges Narcissus and John briefly, but in the end, he is once again Narcissus to Goldmund. The names Narcissus and Goldmund are highly symbolic.
The book is a very comfortable read and recommended.

I have to admit that I'm not a regular reader of Stephen King, certainly one of the most prolific writers of the late 20th and early 21st Century. in fact, this is only the second book of his to which I have listened (The Green Mile a couple of years ago). This listen is a marathon.
I understand why King re-released it with a fresh editorial eye. One of the main themes is a deadly flu-like virus, most likely released accidentally by the military. And this was redone before the Corona Virus.
There is an underlying spiritual theme that I think King handled quite well - basic good versus evil.
There are two transcontinental trips across the U.S., and a variety of interesting characters. Several subplots keep it interesting.
The narrator does a good job with the many varying voices.
Recommended.
