When Pi is 16, his family emigrates from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship along with their zoo animals bound for new homes. The ship sinks. Pi finds himself alone in a lifeboat, his only companions a hyena, an orangutan, a wounded zebra, and Richard Parker, a 450 pound Bengal tiger.

Historia
A century after it first appeared, Crime and Punishment remains one of the most gripping psychological thrillers. A poverty-stricken young man, seeing his family making sacrifices for him, is faced with an opportunity to solve his financial problems with one simple but horrifying act: the murder of a pawnbroker. She is, he feels, just a parasite on society. But does the end justify the means? Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov makes his decision and then has to live with it.

Beware, your perceptions may be improved & new levels of awareness may be attained… the narrator made this listen possible.
Theory alone is for the weak, while eternal love is for only for the strongest of men. Only with the heart, understood beyond reason, can the mind overcome its innate weaknesses. The mind breaks in its processing, killing others or oneself, literally or figuratively. As it is, the conclusions found in the fate of our characters, are reflected earnestly and vividly accurate within.
In parts, I found the story dragging, simply because I didn’t wish to go into the rambling depths of each character’s mind. I was too busy questioning my own self to follow the author’s well-written depictions. But, the relatable messaging expressed, enables the audience to empathize with every character—if observing with an open mind and loving heart.
Enter this story with judgment, cynicism, or condemnation, and you’ll miss the point and waste your time. You’ll hate the story and likely are also one to hate the journey of your life. God help you.
Experience this story like a meditation, it’s easier to do that than real meditation. To be human is to error, to see yourself in literature takes willingness and skill. May you find benefit in this story just as many throughout the ages have.

Quality Advice with Corny Story
Revisado: 08-21-23
Maybe the orator’s reading style made the already cheesy antidotal storyline too mushy, or the writing itself was just that bad. I would have preferred less of the romantic affairs in order to get to the point. There are plenty buzz worthy taglines and words of wisdom to take away here. I was just too bored with the backstory of the “club members” to be able to get through the whole book easily.

Great Story teller, poor preacher
Revisado: 12-02-21
I really loved his story and how he related everyone in it. Once he approached the end of his sorry, retelling his epiphany that led to getting baptized, I became bored. It was anticlimactic.
The story was moving so smoothly up until then, so the last couple chapters dragged—except for the parts about his father. What made the beginning parts of his story so enjoyable felt missing in the end, hard to say what that might be.
Conversion stories are usually about new beginnings, but his ending made it sound like he’s done seeking; and that’s just disappointing. Life is a continuous journey for seeking truth.

Heroine Story
Revisado: 10-31-21
Although the author tells of a culture that lacks and forbids emotional expression, her words emit powerful emotions in a language she taught herself. I’m grateful she found the courage to tell the whole truth without holdback. Her pursuit for freedom grants others permission to do the same. I pray all the best for her.

Historia
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

A Permission Slip for Getting Better
Revisado: 12-14-20
I needed this book more than I could have anticipated. Listening to Steven King read his story makes me feel like his life was saved just to tell his story.
The typical writing advice hasn’t work for me, to the point of discouragement, but the resonance of his is digging me out of my grave. Buried in the depression of 2020, facing the pains carried throughout the years, this book enlivens my desire to be a writer. I’m so critical of myself, it’s taken multiple people, often strangers, to call me a writer and tell me I’m good at it for me to actually identify as one. King’s memoir, style guide, and advice, helps confirm what I’ve come to embrace. Discovering myself as a writer feels like the archaeological approach to writing a story that King recommends. It suits our dispositions.
This book may have saved me from the ongoing meaningless experiences—if I can break my habit of avoidance. As King puts it, writing makes life livable, and like water, is essential for meaningful experiences. All I needed was, to paraphrase King, a little encouragement and some pizza. This book has been just that.
He’s granted me the permission to write contrary to the standard approach taught by people who can barely, themselves, write. He’s informed me that the hardest part, which is getting started, is over quickly. He’s helped me believe in my craft, the miracles that come with it and the honesty that must follow.
King admits writers are needy, but the work saves us. Thank you, Steven King, for telling your story, sharing practical advice for people like us, and giving me permission to tell my own stories. May God bless you and guide you to all the best. Amen.
