The most compelling book I’ve read in years!
Revisado: 10-03-24
Where does one begin to describe such a turbulent time in the U.S., the agonizing and powerful grips of the realities of such a war, and the many struggles for healing, inner strength, and peace for those fortunate to return from the Viet Nam war? As a nurse anesthetist myself, I have seen many traumas and catastrophic injuries stateside. But to manage those as a steady patient flow, under rudimentary circumstances, had to have been a living nightmare. I am a child of the 60s and I recall wearing a POW bracelet for years. This story means something to me. I am a military brat and had a cousin and an uncle shot down in Nam. Kristin Hannah told this story in a deeply moving, human style that made me feel as though I were actually a very present onlooker. I came to feel like I knew these women and their struggles. The writing was outstanding and the narrator was on point every step of the way through the book. This is, by far, the most powerful, compelling, and BEST book I’ve read in many years. It is definitely in the top five of books I’ve ever read.

We’ll crafted storyline
Revisado: 08-31-24
In a short time span a sufficiently deep storyline was developed to keep the reader guessing. I figured it out early but other scenarios were equally likely. I enjoyed the listen.

Historia
Former spy Maggie Bird came to the seaside village of Purity, Maine, eager to put the past behind her after a mission went tragically wrong. These days, she’s living quietly on her chicken farm, still wary of blowback from the events that forced her early retirement. But when a body turns up in Maggie’s driveway, she knows it’s a message from former foes who haven’t forgotten her. Maggie turns to her local circle of old friends—all retirees from the CIA—to help uncover the truth about who is trying to kill her, and why.

Excellent Narration
Revisado: 03-20-24
I enjoyed the story and the slow but steady pace of lifetimes told in an appropriately timed manner. Insight into the lives, of those like the characters who most certainly are operating around the globe, was fascinating. The narration couldn’t have been better!

Extremely amateur and monotone narrator, slow predictable story
Revisado: 01-26-24
Narrator ruined it- story was juvenile, slow, predictable and boring. Shadow, the dog, was the best character.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

Predictable and unnecessarily obscene
Revisado: 12-02-23
Slow and quite predictable. No real plot twists here except for the obscenities thrown in to the story. Parts of the book read like I imagine soft porn would. I kept hoping the author would redeem herself and some modicum of decency. I would not recommend the book to anyone. I regret the time I lost listening to this audiobook!

I enjoyed the story and plot twists, but Jo’s naïveté was somewhat irritating. The narration was well done - no annoying habits of the reader.

I love this series - each book seems even better than the last as I “get to know” the characters better. Jan Moran writes such clean, heartfelt stories that leave me calmed, more hopeful, and happier each time I resume the book. I’m delighted to have found Ms.Moran and plan to read everything she’s written!

Historia
A new beginning in charming Oceanside, Washington, is exactly what Hope Godwin needs after the death of her twin brother. There are plenty of distractions, like her cozy cottage with the slightly nosy landlords next door, and a brewing drama among her students at the local high school. Even having settled quickly into the community, Hope still feels something is still missing. That is, until her landlords convince her to volunteer at their animal shelter. There she meets Shadow, a rescue dog that everyone has given up on. But true to her name, Hope believes he’s worth saving.

Sweet, predictable, and heartwarming
Revisado: 01-22-23
I always enjoy Debbie Macomber’s uplifting, sweet, and wholesome books. This one was in step with others I’ve read written by her. The life lessons, importance of family, friends, care for animals, and love of country infused this story with a touching sweetness. I would recommend without reservations.
