Historia
Unpacking her belongings in her new hometown of Portland, Oregon, herbalist and reformed alchemist Zoe Faust can't help but notice she's picked up a stowaway. Dorian Robert-Houdin is a living, breathing three-and-half-foot gargoyle - not to mention a master of French cuisine - and he needs Zoe's expertise to decipher a centuries-old text. Zoe, who's trying to put her old life behind her, isn't so sure she wants to reopen her alchemical past... until the dead man on her porch leaves her no choice.

Only vegans need apply
Revisado: 01-03-21
If you enjoy when vegans tell everyone they meet that they are vegans, this book is for you. I found the writing a bit cliched and obvious, and the story was ... fine. Just not that interesting or creative. It would have been a fine escapist read if it didn’t feel like every scene needed to explain that - yes - she is v-e-g-a-n. Heartfelt conversation? She needed to love herself enough to treat herself right - by eating a plant-based diet. Murder mystery dramatic reveal? We have to wait until we eat the we-can’t-believe-it’s-vegan dessert first. Morning contemplation of the mystery apparently requires a recipe for her morning smoothie. I’m going to need a bacon sandwich after reading this.

Historia
Marie Sklodowska, 25, is studying science at the Sorbonne—one of the only universities in the world that has begun to admit women. A thousand miles from her native Poland, with no money and the odds stacked against any woman daring to pursue a career in such a rigorous field, Marie throws herself into her studies. She’s certain that to succeed in a man’s world, she will have to go it alone.

It’s a love story
Revisado: 04-22-19
Her scientific achievements are literally in one final sentence, the whole story is about her meeting Pierre - is that all she contributed to society?
The narrator was also pretty bad - her selective use of accents (and poor ones at that) and weird robot voice (listen to her say “honorable”).
Sigh. I thought this was supposed to be about a scientist.

Historia
Whether we call it the inner critic, superego, or just plain nag, most of us have a "judge within" who's constantly on our case. A comprehensive guide to understanding how the inner critic works, this book offers practical, positive suggestions for breaking free of it. Using straightforward language and examples from everyday life, Byron Brown shows: Where the inner judge came from. How it operates. Why it trips us up. Why we believe we need it. How to develop awareness of it. How to disengage from it.

Astounding, brilliant....
Revisado: 06-12-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Soul Without Shame to be better than the print version?
I wouldn't consider the print version because the way the brain interprets sound is different from the way it interprets words. Overthinking, rationalizing, judging--all these things can be softened by allowing yourself to sit back and listen.
Who was your favorite character and why?
N/A
What does Fajer Al-Kaisi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His voice brings depth, authority.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There a thousand things that moved me about this book. To name one would be impossible.
Any additional comments?
For anyone who has ever listened to Tolle's Power of Know--this IS the flashlight that cuts through the fog.

Powerful, profound, like being with an actual
Revisado: 03-17-15
If you could sum up Knowing Your Shadow in three words, what would they be?
therapist but better than most. If you're like me you've been through 4 or 5 who just ask you what you did last week and nothing else. This is not like that, this is actual shadow work. The meditations for meeting your shadow in section 2 are great. And the song that closes section 2 out is so awful that after recovering from the initial shock of being immediately and spontaneously thrust back into your childhood with images of your overbearing [insert religion here] mom and all the shame and guilt and crap that entails, you won't be discouraged from doing shadow work on that too. Haven't listened to the rest, but I'm sure it's good.
What other book might you compare Knowing Your Shadow to and why?
Possibly Ken Wilber's early stuff, the stuff he wrote in the 80's before boarding the turquoise spaceship.
Which scene was your favorite?
Section 2 Meditation where you stand outside the cave.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Knowing Your Shadow?
Knowing my shadow, duh.
Any additional comments?
Nope.
