Historia
In Life Inc., award-winning writer, documentary filmmaker, and scholar Douglas Rushkoff traces how corporations went from being convenient legal fictions to being the dominant fact of contemporary life. Indeed, as Rushkoff shows, most Americans have so willingly adopted the values of corporations that they’re no longer even aware of it.

Some Redeeming Qualities
Revisado: 07-17-09
I started listening to this book and thought at first he was an extreme liberal. Then I realized he is not. He is not Conservative either. He is challenging many of the basic assumptions in the world. This is the interesting part of this book. While I don't agree with much of what he says, I did find it fascinating to listen to. He touches on so many different topics. The book is very broad. The author does have this intense fear of authority. While Conservatives would prefer business to control, and Liberals would like the Government to control, Rushkoff doesn't want anything or anybody to have control. His perfect world is the small communities of the middle ages or Brooklyn in the 40s. I think the book is definitely worth listening to. It also presents some interesting information regarding how some companies do business.

Historia
It's difficult today to imagine how America survived the Great Depression. Only through the stories of the common people who struggled during that era can we really understand how the nation endured. In The Forgotten Man, Amity Shlaes offers a striking reinterpretation of the Great Depression. Rejecting the old emphasis on the New Deal, she turns to the neglected and moving stories of individual Americans, and shows how they helped establish the steadfast character we developed as a nation.

Timely
Revisado: 10-28-08
While some say this is revisionist history, many of the facts tell a different story. It shows why Capitalism is one of the few economic systems that truly works, whether we like it or not. The comments about "unpatriotic" weathly americans can apply to every person in America and what we all do. Most people are focused on themselves and therefore the economic system of a country needs to flourish when this happens. That is why Capitalism has been successful and why failed Socialistic economies like Russia have moved to it. In a broader sense, this book shows why redistribution of wealth does not work. This is an outstanding book at this time in history.

Fun Alternative
Revisado: 09-19-08
I think this is a fun alternative to many of things kids are doing today. The story includes a lot of history. It is a combination of National Treasure and the Davinci Code for kids. The combination of the website gives the kids a more intelligent alternative to webkinz. After listening to this book, I purchased two copies for my children ages 10 & 13. I think this will be fun to follow as additional books come out and the clues continue.

But in the hands of Kurt Eichenwald, the players we think we know and the business practices we think have been exposed are transformed into entirely new, and entirely gripping, material.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Never before has an author’s narration of his fiction been so important to fully grasping the book’s impact and global implications. Taking us from Afghanistan in the final days of its monarchy to the present, The Kite Runner is the unforgettable story of the friendship between two boys growing up in Kabul. Their intertwined lives, and their fates, reflect the eventual tragedy of the world around them.

Should be Award Winning
Revisado: 08-15-05
If their was an award for books written and read by the author, this book should win. Truly a classic. I believe it will live on beyond the current year. It reveals so much of people and how they all have similar hopes and dreams. It makes a case for what the US is doing in the middle east and at the same time reveals the issues as internal to the countries there. I never would have guessed I would like this book. I was asked to read it by a friend. The audio version is a true delight. The author gives us the correct pronunciations which I could never have gotten from reading the book. The author gives us the true passion that existed in the charaters of his mind. Be prepared to feel strong emotion with this book.

Wonderful
Revisado: 06-09-05
What a great book! I found this book fascinating. It follows the history of the Disney company from 1984 through 2005. All the personalities. Many private conversations are revealed. Michael Eisner believed the author was documenting his legacy and opened many doors. What the author found was so fascinating that he needed to tell it straight rather than tell it from Michael's point of view.
After visiting Disney World in January, I really felt the negative feelings coming over me. The greed that has truly effected the long-term potential value of the Disney name. This is the story of how it got to where it is today and of the people who are fighting to get the "real" Disney back.
Anyone who is familiar with the products of the Disney company will appreciate and enjoy this book. It is a long book, but also a book that I really looked forward to listening to every day and didn't want it to end.

Many Facts not reported by the Press
Revisado: 01-04-04
Clearly there is a group trying to discredit this book. The number of reviews alone on this book reveals an organized effort against it.
Some recently disclosed facts that we don't hear about are revealed which only came to light since the Cold War ended and the Soviet Union Collapsed. McCarthy was right about many things he said. Roosevelt was advised by Communists in his organization. In the late fifties it was hard to believe. Now we know it was actually true. This book gets us thinking about all those things that we have assumed for many years and has us review the history and see where the ideas came from.
This book is certainly written from the Conservative ideological point of view, but I believe that if the average american were asked if they thought communism was bad, they would have said yes. Ann Coulter points out that Democratic foreign policy accepted Communism while Republican foreign policy sought to destroy it.
A well written book which deserves more discussion and not just a lot of one star reviews which are clearly out of anger or fear.

Top of the Class
Revisado: 08-21-03
This is one of the best authors and readers I've read. Both are 5 out of 5. The subject matter here is not something I thought I would like. I was pleasantly fascinated by it. I enjoyed each listening session very much. I am very happy I experienced it. You really need to experience one of these books and then evaluate for yourself if the subject matter will keep you coming back. The book contains a number of experiences of a country vet in Scotland. Some of the stories will stay with me the rest of my life. I never got the feeling that this book was repetitive, but I can see how future books may become that way.

Entertaining
Revisado: 05-24-03
This was a story about a family from Chicago in the early 20th Century. We follow the family as each child has dreams that do not include working in their family business. I usually read non-fiction, but every once in a while I read some fiction. This was the kind of story I wanted to keep listening to. I was truly interested in the characters and what happened to them. It was fun.
The story takes place around all the events of the early Century including the changes that impacted society with the war.
Edward Herrmann was remarkable. A very talented reader.

Average
Revisado: 04-25-03
I've read a number of non-fiction narratives. This one is very average. The subject matter is difficult to get very excited about. It may be the abridgement that has detracted from the work of the author. Many times it is the side stories and facts that I find most fascinating. Those stories are not in this recording. It is like the difference between a newspaper account and being at an event. I picked up a copy of the book at work one day and started reading through it. All of the little stories I found enlightening were left out of the abridged version. This book does a good job of dealing with the primary storyline involving the measurement of the earth to determine the size of the meter. Beyond that, I found the narrative not very interesting.
