Insane!

Read this book as a part of a book club and I am completely in awe! The author was open and vulnerable and literally bared her soul with us. I have not personally experienced a crash in my life but I’ve had some tough days! This book is Juanita’s testimony but I gained freedom through her experience. It’s a must read but warning...you will be changed!
Juanita was apart of the book club and it was incredible watching her interact with the ladies in the group. She felt like a family member who was sitting you down with us for a chat.

Cora is a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. Life is hell for all the slaves, but especially bad for Cora; an outcast even among her fellow Africans, she is coming into womanhood—where even greater pain awaits. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. Matters do not go as planned—Cora kills a young white boy who tries to capture her. Though they manage to find a station and head north, they are being hunted.

Wow!

I'm not usually into books about slavery but I had to read this one for a book club I'm in and I must admit I'm impressed. I liked how detailed and raw it was. It didn't sugarcoat what was going on in those times. I loved how the underground railroad was actually a train in this story! it made it come alive a little more. This books ending kind of leaves you hanging though...I was interested in what happens next...does Cora finally find freedom...love...etc? Where is she on her way with this new man? So many questions lol! Maybe there will be a part 2! But overall I enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend it 😊
