Vibrant and Beautiful with a twist of Darkness
Revisado: 11-23-24
Phil and Nick make for a killer combo. Everything about this series is wonderful. It's everything I want in a fantasy/sci-fi novel. Because this is book 3 and you are reading my review, then you must be a fan of books 1 & 2. LastRock ramps things up to 11. It takes everything you like about the first 2 books and expands on it. The action, the vengeance, the heartbreak, the sorrow... LastRock has it all. If you loved 1 & 2 LastRock will not disappoint!

Sorry... Really? Thrust? Anyway, Danny Kendrick was a down-on-his luck performer who always struggled to find his place. He certainly never wanted to be a hero. He just hoped to earn a living doing what he loved. That all changes when he pisses off the wrong guy and gets sucked into a fantasy realm straight out of a Renaissance Fair. Getting used to a new world is tough. It's even tougher when you're surrounded by axe-wielding barbarians, super hot elf assassins, strange magic, and a jaded System that doesn't appear interested in being charged with yet another companion.

Huh?
Revisado: 10-19-24
I guess I don't have a sense of humor. This book just doesn't do it for me. Dungeon Crawler Carl is right up my ally. This book however seems to me geared toward a much younger audience. The full cast is great and you can tell they truly care about the material. Unfortunately, it just doesn't appeal to me. I was hoping for the opposite. Soundbooth Theater never disappoints. Nothing last forever and as much as I listen to them, I was bound to eventually listen to a book that I didn't like and this is that book. I'm not a big comedy type of guy anyway. Especially with movies. I hate comedic movies. I thought this book would fall in line with Dungeon Crawler Carl type comedy. I was wrong. I really wish I liked this book. I couldn't even make it to chapter 10.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Remarkably Incredible...
Revisado: 10-19-24
I had forgotten how remarkably Incredible this series is. It has been several years since I had listened to it, and although I knew that I had loved every word, I had forgotten just how uniquely amazing and extraordinary the legend of the King Killer is. Because I had forgotten and rumors that book number 3 is going to arrive on the scene within the coming months. I wanted to remember. I wanted to remember why I had fallen in love with this series and what caused me to cherish every single word. I wanted to remember so that when the moment finally arrived for the world receive the gift of The Door of Stone, I would not feel lost while listening. So 3 days ago I took a 2 day vacation from work, found The Name of the Wind within my library and pushed play.
Now I remember! My God do I remember. This series is one of, if not the best fantasy adventure that I have ever experienced in my life. While I absolutely knew that I loved this series, I honestly did forget exactly why. A lot has happened through the years since I originally finished listening to the series those many years ago. All I knew is that I was dying to listen to the long awaited 3rd title The Door of Stone. Upon hearing the rumor that it really was going to finally release soon, I decided to listen to the first 2 books so that everything was fresh in my mind when that glorious moment arrived. This series is amazing in so many ways. It's so good that instead of trying to explain why I love it to a fellow reader or listener of fantasy novels who hasn't experienced it... I insist that they read or listen to it themselves. I insist and then I offer to buy it for them as a gift. I do this because I absolutely know that they will love it. That is what I did then and what I have been doing now these past few days. I've bought this series as a gift 3 times this past week. Wouldn't you know it... Those 3 friends called me and thanked me profusely. My nephew Jacob told me that this book changed his life in that he has now decided to write his own fantasy novel. This series is incredible and when book 3 releases... I can finally provide proof that there is a heaven, God absolutely exists and he absolutely answers prayers.

Amazing, Unique and Immersive...
Revisado: 10-12-24
Shadeslinger is unique in that I feel as if I'm right there in the game slingin' spells and swingin' swords with my party. MMO slang is a second language to me and I love the way that it's incorporated into this series. That combined with the detailed description of EBOs world, let's feel like I'm right in the thick of it... Fighting right beside Ned and listening to Franks snarkiness through every battle. The Ripple System is my new favorite series and after finishing book one, I can't wait to begin book two. Anyone who is a fan of the LitRPG genre will absolutely love this book. It's been on my radar for a long time. The only thing disappointing about it is that I waited so long to give it a listen. This will not be the case with the rest of the titles in the series because I immediately bought them the moment this book ended. I effing love Audible!

There are no words...
Revisado: 09-25-24
This book... This long awaited 5th installment of The Wraiths Haunt has literally broken my freaking mind. For the first time I have no words to explain my love for an amazing and wonderful book. While listening to this book a plethora of emotions passed through me. Happy, sad, distraught, excited, anger... I have felt things listening to this book that I have only managed to feel during the worst of times and happiest of moments in my life! That is how powerful this 5th installment is. Hugo has outdone himself. With this book, he has managed to put the entire world into perspective. The troubling times that we are going through are ever presented in the Nightmare Kingdom. Two parties split between beliefs so different that each are blinded by hate hits really close to home... To close. The last 5 hours of this book are insanely good. I'm talking memorizingly addictive. While listening, I did not move from my position on the couch. I just sat there engaged, engrossed and on the edge of my seat. I did not drink. I did not eat. I just listened and let Hugo, Jeff, Ellie and the rest of the cast take me for one helluva ride. If you're a fan of The Wraiths Haunt you will by no means be disappointed with this 5th installment. The only thing remotely bad about the book was waiting for it to arrive on my scene. My God was I looking forward to this book. Now I have to wait for number 6. I hope... No, I pray that the wait for 6 isn't a long one. I hope Hugo reads my review because I really want him to know how much I enjoyed it. It's easily in my top 5 favorite books that I've ever listened to. Now I just have to wait on the conclusion of King Killer.

Revisado: 09-15-24
I finished listening to books 1-4 of this series a few years ago and have been patiently waiting for book 5 ever since. The Wraiths Haunt is by far one of my top favorite series available on Audible. The only criticism that I have is the long wait for book 5. I really wanted to give this series the review it deserves, but I am to impatient. Book 5 is calling my name and I need to answer. Please believe me and the countless other listeners and readers who truly love this series and author... If you are a fan of LitRPG and similar titles... You will not be disappointed with any of the books in this series. Each one is better than the last and they are voiced by individuals who truly care about and enjoy their craft. If my review doesn't persuade you to give it a try, then I have failed in doing my part to bring joy into anothers life. I still can't believe it... Book 5 is finally out... Today is definitely a great day!!!

Historia
When quiet Orrin and his extroverted best friend, Daniel, were transported to a strange RPG-based world, not much changed between them. Daniel became a hero of legend, while Orrin remained his unobtrusive shadow. Only when they faced a particularly lethal foe did Orrin step out of his comfort zone and display his true worth—with powers he didn't know he had. Of course, Daniel got all the glory, but Orrin doesn't mind. He's just happy they're both still alive.

Super EPIC
Revisado: 08-25-24
What a truly awesome 2nd edition to an already remarkable story! The only thing that saddens me is the extremely massive cliffhanger that awaits you at the end. It punches you right in the gut. So much so that it is almost cruel. This is why I usually stay away from series that are incomplete. Waiting for the next book in a gripping adventure can be hell. Does the King Killer ring any bells? This isn't your normal cliffhanger. It's a HUUUGE cliffhanger... I'm talking gigantic! Trust me though, it's worth it. I shouldn't have to say much in order for me to sell you on this book. You've obviously already listened to book 1 or you wouldn't be here. If you enjoyed book 1 then you will definitely enjoy book 2. If you don't like cliffhangers though, I would wait for book 3. I can't stress the size of the cliffhanger that presents itself at the end of this book. Mentioning it 3 times in this review doesn't do it justice. You have see it (or hear it) to believe it. Wow! What an insane and incredible ending!

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

Amazing!!!
Revisado: 04-23-24
Just like all other books voiced by Nick Podehl, I am not the Hero is amazing. While listening to the book, I feel as if I have made several true friends for life. The author and Nick bring the characters to life in a way that kept me listening for hours on end. The only thing bad about this book is having to wait for book 2. I will truly miss all of the characters that I have literally spent the past 2 days with. Anyone who is familiar with the books that Nick Podehl reads will absolutely fall in love with I am not the Hero. Humor and seriousness are blended togeather extremely well and the Lit RPG elements are on point. Character stats are only mentioned when they matter unlike other books which focus on them repeatedly. World building is on point and I could easily picture the City of Day materialize around me while listening to the book. I absolutely loved every moment of this new adventure and am very much looking forward to book 2.

Historia
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

King never disapoints...
Revisado: 11-27-23
King really knows how to write a villain. Big Jim has got to be one of the most hated a holes that he has ever put to paper. I can't remember despising a fictional character so much. Raul brings the psycho dictator and his demonic sick son to life in a way that put me on edge every time they spoke. The long southern drawn accent of Big Jim and the twisted voice of Junior made my skin crawl... And I absolutely loved it. I am not kidding. The hate I have for Big Jim and his son is as real and palatable as the bowl of Cherios that I had this morning for breakfast. King never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think he's reached his plateau, he goes higher. All of the other characters in Under the Dome do not disappoint either. King populated Chesters Mill with a plethra of interesting individuals that perfectly pair with the stories main characters. Raul truly breathes life into Chesters Mill. Every moment is a nail biter. There were times that I caught myself yelling at my speakers. Yelling at Big Jim to go shove a stick up his a** or for Barbie to grab Junior and pull his head through the bars of his jail cell... And the way that Raul plays Junior with his "Baaarrrbie" speak is genius. So yea, I really like Under the Dome. Unfortunately, just like most of Kings screen adaptations, the Under the Dome TV series is complete crap. Which is weird because King apparently likes it. To each his own I guess. It's not my place to tell people what they should or shouldn't like. For me though... Under the Dome is my new favorite King novel. Did I mention how much I loathe the villain? Did I mention that my hate for Big Jim and his son are as real as rain? Because it is. I legitimately have a true discust and pure hatred for Big Jim and Junior. Listen to or read Under the Dome and you will understand why I feel this way.

Excellent in every way!
Revisado: 06-23-22
The only drawback to this book is having to wait for the release of book 2. Waiting for the continuation of a series to be released is a cruel form of "dignified" torture. Bastion is the 1st book in yet another series that I have attached myself too. The world Phil has created is magnificent and shrouded in a deep mystery that leaves me desperately wanting to discover its every secret. Bastion is well written and suited perfectly for Nick to bring its pages to life. It's one of those titles that you do not want to end and when it does you feel as if you have said goodbye to a very dear close friend. Not knowing when they will return to keep you company... Just knowing that they will return.
