Historia
If there’s one trait that makes someone well-suited to comedy, it’s being able to take a punch - metaphorically and, occasionally, physically. Told with a healthy dose of self-deprecation, A Very Punchable Face reveals the brilliant mind behind some of the dumbest sketches on television, and lays bare the heart and humor of a hardworking guy - with a face you can’t help but want to punch.

SO NOT FUNNY
Revisado: 01-31-23
So thousands of people disagree but I can't even finish this book. If you want to know every boring thought that ever went through Colin's mind, tuck in.
Maybe I'll skip to the chapter about his mother that some other reviewers have mentioned but that'll be it.
Thankfully I bought this book as a two for one and I really enjoyed, and found humorous, 10% Happier by Dan Harris. This book is definitely return worthy !

In When the Body Says No, physician and writer Gabor Maté explores the mind-body link and the connection between stress and disease. Can a person literally die of loneliness? Is there a relationship between the ability to express emotions and Alzheimer’s disease? Is there such a thing as a “cancer personality”? Drawing on scientific research and years of experience as a practicing physician, Maté provides answers to these and other important questions.

DON'T DOWNLOAD THIS VERSION
Revisado: 04-02-21
I read reviews that mentioned that chapters repeated themselves so I waited for the latest recording to become available at the beginning of March 2021 - sadly this version is not available in the USA.
As the reviews were quite old I thought perhaps that the errors had been fixed - frustratingly they have not.
I am writing the review before returning the book as that is the only way I can review it. The subject matter is very interesting to me and I thought I would listen all the way through regardless but now that yet another chapter is repeating itself I can't bare it - it's just too much work to listen to.
There are some glitches early on but chapters 12, 13, and now 14 just repeat - not by announcing themselves, the dialogue just continues as if that story hasn't already been told. I was going to listen to the book and make a note of all the errors but it's just too tiring and frustrating.

Historia
Eleven months after his liberation from Auschwitz, Viktor E. Frankl held a series of public lectures in Vienna. The psychologist, who was to become world famous, explained his central thoughts on meaning, resilience and the importance of embracing life even in the face of great adversity. Published for the very first time, Frankl’s words resonate as strongly today as they did in 1946. He offers an insightful exploration of the maxim ‘live as if you were living for the second time’ and unfolds his basic conviction that every crisis also includes an opportunity.

Narration not for me!
Revisado: 01-16-21
Note - the preview is not the voice of the narrator, or if it is, it is not as affected as the rest of the narration!
I will be returning this book after I write this review. I have only tried to listen for one hour but I find the voice modulation, constantly rising and sinking, impossible to follow. Given what Viktor Frankl had to live through to come to his conclusions I feel warrants a delivery with more gravitas. The voice is too affected for me although it's possible that I may be in the minority. You can always click on the narrator and listen to his delivery style of other books to see if it is to your taste. :-D
I will however buy the book.

SORRY I DELAYED 1YR BUYING THIS BOOK !
Revisado: 04-29-20
I delayed one year buying this audio book because of the narration. Finally the book had been recommended so much that I finally caved. I'm so glad I did.
I have literally lost count of how many times I have listened to this book. I ended up finding the narration akin to that of a sports commentator where the pace and cadence keeps you on tenterhooks during the recounted races.
I loved the stories of all the athletes and how they all answered that very important question How Bad Do You Want It? I found this book enormously helpful in keeping me motivated and focused during marathon training.
In this book you will not only learn to ask and answer this question but you will also learn what pitfalls to avoid and how to know and recognize outside performance enhancers to your advantage.
I will continue to reuse this book for as long as I am running and competing.

Why Vote Leave

Historia
MEP and award-winning political writer Daniel Hannan argues for a British exit ahead of the coming referendum. Hannan demonstrates that the EU is past its sell-by date, rendered obsolete by technological advances, shrinking economically and less relevant to our economic needs than ever. Worse than that, he shows that the EU can’t reform, can’t be democratic and can’t be divorced from its goal of ever-closer political union.

A MUST READ EVEN AFTER THE REFERENDUM!
Revisado: 06-28-16
Would you consider the audio edition of Why Vote Leave to be better than the print version?
For me it is. I prefer to listen especially when the narrator, the author, is such a great orator.
What does Daniel Hannan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I'm a very auditory person - I learn best from listening - and Daniel Hannan has perfect delivery of his own work.
Any additional comments?
Those who voted to Remain in the EU are now brandishing all Leave voters as the "Uneducated Masses" and "Racists" Some now even call themselves the 'illuminati' and believe that the right to vote should only be given to citizens who reach a higher level of education. (presumably only those who think as they do!) I have even been told by a few that I think I am better than everyone else, having voted to Leave, and that they are ashamed to be associated with me! . Can they not hear themselves?
If you are looking for clarity as to what the heck is going on instead of gullibly believing a very biased or ill informed press, (at least here in the USA) read this book. You will see for yourself why some very educated people also voted to Leave!!
Having read this book, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a new referendum. And I only pray that Daniel Hannan won't give up the good fight. God help us.

WILL INVOLVE SOME WORK... BUT WORTH IT
Revisado: 06-06-13
Would you consider the audio edition of Finding Your Element to be better than the print version?
I'm not sure. This is the first time that I have felt the need for the printed version. Unfornately, as of date, the book is only available in hard back.
What other book might you compare Finding Your Element to and why?
This book has many parallels to many spiritual teachings, from which the author occasionally quotes, but it is your choice as to whether you see finding your element a spiritual jouney or merely a way of finding the right career path for yourself or a child.
Which scene was your favorite?
All the exercises are valuable tools and I loved the personal stories of how some people found their element.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
What makes you happy? When are you at your happiest. This would have been suprisingly difficult to answer before completing just three of the exercises - now it just seems so obvious!
Any additional comments?
If you are like me, you are an audible subscriber because you prefer to listen to books whilst you are on the move. With this book however, if you really want to Find Your Element, you are going to have to sit down to listen and have certain tools available ( the author suggests these at the begining of the book) Because of this I went to buy the printed copy but I didn't like the hardback version as it can't be manipluated in the same way as a paper back. So it is a little frustrating to listen to questions asked and to do the exercises given whilst constantly pausing and rewinding. That said - that is what I am prepared to do as, having only completed three of the ten exercises I can already see a pattern and have noticed a shift in my behaviour as a result! Inpatient as I am, I listen to the book on the move and then when I come home, and I have time alone UNDISTURBED! (that is essential), I re-listen to the chapters and do the exersises.
My Headline stated that this book involved some work - that may just be me!. My personality type does not predispose me to sitting down with, pens, paper, coloured pens, vision boards etc.. but I strongly believe that the outcome will be worth that extra effort. No doubt, some people will not find this 'work' at all :-D

WIll Just Have to Read the Book!
Revisado: 03-25-13
Would you try another book from Sheryl Sandberg and/or Elisa Donovan?
I would not buy another book by this narrator, as for the author, I reserve judgement until I have read the book.
Has Lean In turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What didn’t you like about Elisa Donovan’s performance?
The narration is driving me to distraction and I cannot concentrate on the content of the book. I previewed the narration but I failed to predict just how irritating the nasally immature voice would be. .
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
It has sparked my interest in buying the book - I think it is an important topic.
Any additional comments?
There are several books that I don't download because of the narrator. I wish more care would be taken to vet/test a narrators performances on an audience before committing them to an entire book. I have just had to buy Daring Greatly as I could tell the narration wasn't appropriate for the style of book. The book was a great read that I highly recommend, however I would alway rather listen to a book.. I'm disappointed!

He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. Started By Loving but...
Revisado: 02-08-13
Would you try another book from Robert Crais and/or MacLeod Andrews?
Not sure!
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The relationship between man and dog is what held me; any dog lover will love this but may find themselves wanting me.
What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?
I liked the naration and how his voice changed for different characters up until the very end where I felt it was over-done; possibly trying to make up for the rushed ending.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
If they filled it out with more detail into the characters.
Any additional comments?
I started really liking this book (you had me at dog) but from the get go it felt abridged. I consolled myself with the fact that I was enjoying it, so was prepared to take it as it was but to be left with that feeling at the end left me disappointed. It was all quickly tied up with a cute bow but with no depth to it. If I were the editor I would have had the author fill out the characters more and give us more insights into the bonding process with Maggie.

GOOD GOD This Man Loves Himself!
Revisado: 10-06-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Beginner of self-motivation - many of the inspirational quotes are useful but Robin comes across as all ego inspite of telling us how flawed and human he is; followed by "and people have come up to me and said "Robin, ........ " Fill in a with self praising statement.
What was most disappointing about Robin Sharma’s story?
How many times he uses his own name. How he compliments himself why feigning humility.
How could the performance have been better?
If Robin had not kept telling us how wonderful, helpful, inspiring etc... other people found him! The delivery was really affected.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Extraordinary Leadership?
Every sentence that starts with "and people have said to me, Robin......."
Any additional comments?
Take a drink every time Robin uses his own name and you will die from alcohol poisoning.

Historia
Of all of John Irving's books, this is the one that lends itself best to audio. In print, Owen Meany's dialogue is set in capital letters; for this production, Irving himself selected Joe Barrett to deliver Meany's difficult voice as intended. In the summer of 1953, two 11-year-old boys – best friends – are playing in a Little League baseball game in Gravesend, New Hampshire. One of the boys hits a foul ball that kills the other boy's mother. The boy who hits the ball doesn't believe in accidents; Owen Meany believes he is God's instrument. What happens to Owen after that 1953 foul ball is extraordinary and terrifying.

Still Haunts Me a Little
Revisado: 10-06-12
What did you love best about A Prayer for Owen Meany?
The naration of this book is perfect. I have even told friends who would prefer to read the book, that they must listen to a snipet of the audio version first so that they can know Owen's voice!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
This isn't a book that you can listen to in one sitting because of its length, and it does at times feel long and drawn out, so you will probably appreciate a break. However, you must come back for more!!
Any additional comments?
I sometimes wondered why the story was so long and where it was going - basically I felt occassionlly impatient, but that said, I was completely drawn into Owen Meanys world. If Owen wasn't the main charater in a chapter I couldn't wait for him to reappear. It has been months now since I have heard this book but I can remember all the characters as if they were real people and I still feel a little heart broken whenever I think about this book - in a good way! Why it touched me so much I have not been able to fathom!!!
