Historia
Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Chernow was his usual thoroughly researched self. Story is thorough but doesn’t drag Carrie’s you along. I have read ALOT of Civil war history and I learned alot with this biography. Strongly recommend.

Historia
The Second World Wars examines how combat unfolded in the air, at sea, and on land to show how distinct conflicts among disparate combatants coalesced into one interconnected global war. Drawing on 3,000 years of military history, Victor Davis Hanson argues that despite its novel industrial barbarity, neither the war's origins nor its geography were unusual. Nor was its ultimate outcome surprising. The Axis powers were well prepared to win limited border conflicts, but once they blundered into global war, they had no hope of victory.

Historia
In Defense of Liberal Democracy is a clarion call for today's divided time: a bold reaffirmation of the liberal democratic principles that have carried America through each crisis in its history - and can do so again. Merging expert historical, political, and economic analysis, In Defense of Liberal Democracy shows how our recent technological revolution - what high-profile economist Manuel Hinds calls the Connectivity Revolution - has led to a crisis of divisiveness.

Excellent summary of our situation and compelling thoughts on progressing
Revisado: 01-08-22
Excellent summary of our situation in the world and the United States. Hinds brings a global perspective of the historical and economic background to explain how we got to today. I kept trying to figure out is the author was center left or center right (I tend center right with a libertarian bent- so maybe he was center right) but I really couldn’t tell as his Ideas are taken from both sides of the debate. Possibly his rigorous adherence to an economic and historical context make this work both. I think this book will appeal to anyone who has strong beliefs in the superior personal and cultural outcomes of (small ‘l’) liberal and democratic ideals. Hinds provides compelling secular ideas on how to progress forward if we are to preserve democracy and liberal ideals.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Short and fun glad I didn’t spend a point on it.

Fun facts about coffee and caffeine. Some interesting history about coffee and tea. The author lets too much of his anti-capitalist mentality and bias come through.
