Confession: I love Charlie David.
Confession pt2: I love Damon Suede.
Sure, the guy is put on a pedestal in the MM romance genre, but this book deserves the accolades.
Charlie David's narration for this one is intense. His voice is dreamy, very sexy, intense, and his voices for each character are spot on. The sex scenes - of which there are many, and they are LONG - are read with the sort of passion and excitement that you want from this type of story.
I'm not going to give any spoilers, but the storytelling itself was great, even if the pacing wasn't. I feel like Suede could have done with a more heavy-handed editor... at over 10 and a half hours this is the longest audiobook in my collection, and it does drag in places.
Despite this, it's a story I keep coming back to - for the narration, for the romance, and for the story.
Do yourself a favour and believe the hype!

Any additional comments?

I loved the premise of this story - two guys with similar disabilities finding love in spite of the things that hold them back. Should have been great.
However.
As an avid MM romance reader, I couldn't connect with either of the main characters. The expression "chicks with d*cks" gets thrown around from time to time, but even that doesn't work in this situation. It's offensive to chicks. I have never met a guy in my life: straight, gay, or otherwise, who acts like the MCs in this story. They emote EVERYTHING. No feeling can go unexpressed. The purple prose is excruciating.
What annoyed me the most is that with a LOT of editing (I can't blame Dreamspinner Press for this one, the story needed a rewrite more than an editor) it could have been good. The characters were well rounded, the plot moved along at a decent enough pace. It was just so contrived. Painful to listen to, despite the fair effort of the narrator.
Give this one a miss.

I am a self-confessed Amy Lane fan. I also have a background in theatre, having worked both in front of and behind the curtain for about 10 years now, so I was excited to listen to this one.
For some reason the story fell a little bit flat for me.
Compared to some of her others (The Locker Room, Bolt Hole, Racing for the Sun) this one felt a bit romance-by-numbers with some theatre terminology thrown in.
I really liked both the main characters and the secondary ones - Dawson's dad in particular was great. Jared felt like a very well rounded character, though Dawson and Benji were both a bit generic.
I suppose the main thing for me that didn't feel right was Dawson and Benji's love of theatre. In my experience, most theatre techs are in it for the tech, not the passion to put on a show. Also, not all techs are failed actors - that's a stereotype that really grates!!
It's a good story, but not Amy's best.
3/5

What did you like best about Morning Report? What did you like least?

This story is a large part PWP. Which is fine, I quite like PWP, but in an audiobook it gets a bit boring. You could almost predict - conflict scene, sex scene. Conflict scene, sex scene. And so on.
The main confrontation in the book, which is built up and built up, never actually happens, which leaves things unresolved and the reader (listener) unsatisfied.
The narrator's voice was great for about 90% of the book, then there was a few voices that pulled me totally out of the story. The characterisation - by both the writer and the narrator - was good.
There's also an underlying Christian message that rears its head at the end and just squicked me the fuck out. It has its place, but it's not what I want in my gay romance.
