Historia
A place you will never forget. Rosamunde Pilcher's Scotland...where the fields flourish with greenery, the bills bloom with purple, and the lochs glitter with the bright blue of the sky. A time you will never forget. September...when the heather is in full flower, the first chill of autumn cools the air, and the countryside stirs with the hunt, balls, dinner parties, and dance. Rosamunde Pilcher's September...a story of homecomings and heartbreaks, friendships, betrayals, forgiveness, and love.

Great Story; Terrible Narration
Revisado: 05-08-20
September is second only to The Shell Seekers in my opinion of the Rosamunde Pilcher novels. Terrific story and characters. I have been waiting for the unabridged version of this book to be available on audible since I started my membership years ago. Sadly, the narrator is terrible. I mean, really, really disappointing and irritating. If I had not waited so long and enjoy the story so much, I probably would not have listened past the first chapter.
The narrator has a voice for children's stories perhaps but not for novels. Most of the voices for characters make them sound like cartoons. Also the narration varies from robustly loud to breathlessly low and difficult to hear. I had to keep raisng and lowering the volume while I listened; I've never had to do this with any other audible book. Very disappointing.

Historia
The most popular and beloved American historical novel ever written, Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind is unparalleled in its portrayal of men and women at once larger than life but as real as ourselves. Now best-selling writer Alexandra Ripley brings us back to Tara and reintroduces us to the characters we remember so well: Rhett, Ashley, Mammy, Suellen, Aunt Pittypat, and, of course, Scarlett.

Little Old Lady Voice for Scarlett :(
Revisado: 03-03-20
I have had this book and read it and enjoy the story. In my opinion, the story is an interesting take on the extenuation of the Gone With The wind narrative.
However, the voice of the the narrator is difficult to ignore. She makes Scarlett (and all subsequent characters) sound like a little old lady and therefore nothing like the spirited character the story requires. This is such a disappointment. I have only ever returned one book from audible, but this one is making me think there might be two!

Historia
In the final minutes of Valhalla Rising, Dirk Pitt discovered, to his shock, that he had two grown children he had never known, 23-year-old fraternal twins born to a woman he thought had died in an underwater earthquake. Both have inherited his love of the sea: the girl, Summer, is a marine biologist; the boy, himself named Dirk, is a marine engineer. And now they are about to help their father in the adventure of a lifetime.

Enjoy, If You Are A Dirk Pitt/Cussler Fan
Revisado: 06-12-17
I started reading Clive Cussler years ago because my Dad recommended them as interesting history/action books without the graphic sex and violence than so many other writers of the genre stoop to.
While the dialogue can be a bit corny and sometimes the phrasing hackneyed, for the most part I find the stories entertaining and not offensive as I am not a fan of foul-language either.
Hopefully, Audible will begin to add some of the earlier books in the series as most of the Dirk Pitt novels refer to earlier adventures. Sahara, Atlantis Found and Valhalla Rising are essentials, in my opinion.
Scott Brick is enjoyable as narrator and manages to incorporate female characters without sounding distractingly ridiculous.

Historia
Undeterred by world war and enemy submarines, Amelia and Emerson set sail once again for Egypt, where ghosts of an ancient past and spectres of a present-day evil hover silently over an inscrutable land. In the autumn of 1915 Cairo is transformed into an army camp teeming with enemy agents and shockingly bold tomb robbers are brazenly desecrating the ancient sites. Amelia seeks refuge at a remote dig in Luxor, but this provides no guarantee of safety when she discovers a fresh corpse in an ancient tomb.

Admirable Follow-Up 2 "He Shall Thunder in the Sky
Revisado: 12-17-14
Fans of Elizabeth Peter's "Amelia Peabody" series will not be disappointed with "Lord of the Silent". The progression of character development is good. The story moves very quickly in some sections (almost too quickly) but the story is sound.
Barbara Rosenblat as the narrator is terrific as usual with only a few minor slips in character.
I would love to find more writers and series as entertaining as this! Good, clean, fun!

Historia
In this irresistibly imagined belowstairs answer to Pride and Prejudice, the servants take center stage. Sarah, the orphaned housemaid, spends her days scrubbing the laundry, polishing the floors, and emptying the chamber pots for the Bennet household. But there is just as much romance, heartbreak, and intrigue downstairs at Longbourn as there is upstairs. When a mysterious new footman arrives, the orderly realm of the servants’ hall threatens to be completely, perhaps irrevocably, upended.

NOT For Jane Austen Readers
Revisado: 11-02-14
As a fan of Jane Austen I found this book offensive. While I believe the author's desire is partly to show the 'other side' of the story or the point of view of the servant. I read JA precisely because I do not like to be assaulted with the ugly, seedy and immoral stories of characters, the likes of whom I would never choose to associate with I my daily life let alone for reading entertainment.
An author's desire to examine the disgusting under-belly of humanity to seek out motive and reason is not my idea of relaxing and entertaining reading. This was a sadly disappointing 'read'.

Historia
A new year, 1917, is dawning, and the Great War that ravages the world shows no sign of abating. Answering the siren call of Egypt once more, Amelia Peabody and her family arrive at their home in Luxor to learn of a new royal tomb ransacked by thieves. Soon an even more disturbing outrage concerns the intrepid clan of archaeologists: the freshly and savagely slain corpse of a thief defiling the ancient burial site. Yet this is nothing compared with the lethal fate that threatens Ramses.

Revisado: 07-25-14
As an appreciative reader of the Amelia Peabody series I was thrilled to see this book in it's unabridged form. The performance by Barbara Rosenblat is unequaled in my listening experience. And the story is fun, humorous and interesting as are almost all in this series.

A River Runs Through It is a universal story of family love and a lyrical masterpiece, as beautiful as the great trout rivers of western Montana upon which it is set. Its beauty is especially evident through the "near-perfect match" of reader Ivan Doig and author Norman MacLean.

A lyrical turn of phrase is well and good. I enjoy an exploration of relationships, but this one leaves so much out that I found I was very frustrated that the personalities were not further developed.

Historia
Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

A Nice Try...
Revisado: 06-16-14
While I believe the writer was trying to explore and explain human motivations, the characters sometimes seemed bi-polar. The male characters zip between rage and kind understanding. And while the female characters have admirable and mature qualities, they giggle and talk like 12 years olds. This could be due more to the narrator than the writing. I think I may have really enjoyed this novel when I was 15, but it felt a bit like a waste of time as an adult.

A Bit Too Sappy Ending
Revisado: 06-16-14
Overall this is a nice story. However it can be surprisingly graphic in describing some of the violent conflicts and then the ending of this one just got a bit too sappy for me. Some of the terminology gets tediously redundant. If you can overlook these flaws, it is nice to read about strong relationships and family bonds without the sordid and baser side of humanity being explored.
