Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

Slow start. confusing middle. predicted ending
Revisado: 01-12-22
I got this book free as part of a promotion. I'm glad I didn't pay for it. It was extremely slow to start and I had to force myself to get through the first chapters. the narrator has a thick accent which is appropriate for the time period and setting.... You have been warned.
it's also from two point of views which doesn't help clarify anything in the middle. I just didn't find any of the reactions of the women credible or believable. Nobody thinks her acts like the people in this book! The characters aren't relatable at all.
I do not recommend.

Historia
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

surprisingly amazing!
Revisado: 06-15-21
Do not judge this book by the cover! It is very thorough, the storytelling is amazing, both narrators are on point and it sucks you in. Brandon Sanderson creates a world that is mystifying and alluring. I don't like fantasy novels so this came to me as a huge surprise. I love every character, especially Lopen. Please give this book a try!

Historia
In the autumn of 1558, church bells across England ring out the joyous news that Elizabeth I is the new queen, yet one woman hears the tidings with utter dread. She is Amy Dudley, wife of Sir Robert, and she knows Elizabeth’s ambitious leap to the throne will draw her husband back to the center of the glamorous Tudor court, where he was born to be. Elizabeth has inherited a bankrupt country where treason is rampant and foreign war a certainty. Her advisors warn her that she will survive only if she marries a strong prince to govern the rebellious country. She desires Robert Dudley.

Eh. More of a slow love story (triangle)
Revisado: 05-01-20
Much, much less history and more love triangle. I feel the author cut HIS story short. He did go on to remarry, and the Queen did ban the 2nd wife from court... but that part was cut when the book ended so suddenly; just when it was getting good

Historia
In Homer's account in The Odyssey, Penelope - wife of Odysseus and cousin of the beautiful Helen of Troy - is portrayed as the quintessential faithful wife, her story a salutary lesson through the ages. Left alone for 20 years when Odysseus goes off to fight in the Trojan war after the abduction of Helen, Penelope manages, in the face of scandalous rumours, to maintain the kingdom of Ithaca.

not my favorite ancient Greek story
Revisado: 01-06-20
at the beginning of this book starts off the story we're all familiar with. And then it begins to build on that which I thought would be great. to be honest it was a little boring and somewhat confusing. absolutely nothing wrong with this almost full cast performance except the lackluster story itself.
