Historia
When Pope Paul VII dies suddenly, Gabriel Allon is summoned to Rome by the Holy Father’s loyal private secretary, Archbishop Luigi Donati. A billion Catholic faithful have been told that the pope died of a heart attack. Donati, however, has two good reasons to suspect his master was murdered. The Swiss Guard who was standing watch outside the papal apartments the night of the pope’s death is missing. So, too, is the letter the Holy Father was writing during the final hours of his life. A letter that was addressed to Gabriel.

Not up to Silva's usual standard.
Revisado: 08-24-20
The only bright spot in this book was George Guidall's narration which was characteristically excellent.
I don't know who is writing under Daniel Silva's name now but they're using British terminology (e.g., "car park") in the last couple of novels. I'm not talking about character dialog but rather the description of action. There's nothing inherently wrong with that but his doesn't seem to be Silva's "voice" anymore.
The lack of Silva's voice is also manifest in the plot, which dragged on with comparatively little action or espionage. The team of Israeli supporting characters appeared very little too.
The author seems to be trying to emulate Dan Brown. Why? Daniel Silva was something special! I'm a huge Gabriel Allon fan and was eagerly awaiting this book's release. This novel has been disappointing.

Historia
Can a young war correspondent find herself and follow her heart? In this work of historical fiction, 20-something Annabella “Annie” March arrives in France in 1944 intending to write about the war. Soon, however, Annie begins to distance herself from her sometimes-mentor, sometimes-rival - the great Martha Gellhorn - and Gellhorn’s larger-than-life husband, the novelist Ernest Hemingway. She turns to photography in the hopes of making her own name and, to her delight, discovers that images come more easily than words.

Was there a point? A plot?
Revisado: 04-24-20
The "story" just dragged on and on. It was like a wartime travelogue. Just disjointed scenes and undeveloped, pointless characters.

Meng's plan changes after the atrocious slaughter of democratic protestors in Tiananmen Square. He seeks to bring China to its knees, forcing the prevalence of democracy and launching a massive U.S. attack on the People's Republic.

Great story! As good as Clancy or Coyle!

I liked this better than the previous title in the series, Eyes of the Hammer. Narrator does a passable job and is growing more comfortable with Riley's dialog.

Historia
Dante Alighieri's poetic masterpiece is a moving human drama, an unforgettable visionary journey through the infinite torment of Hell, up the arduous slopes of Purgatory, and on to the glorious realm of Paradise-the sphere of universal harmony and eternal salvation. One of the greatest works in literature, Dantes story-poem is an allegory that represents mankind as it exposes itself, by its merits or demerits, to the rewards or the punishments of justice.

Great Narrator. Tough translation.
Revisado: 12-23-18
The narrator did a fabulous job but the English of the translation was so archaic that it was difficult to follow.

Historia
This adventure in science and imagination, which the Medical Tribune said might herald "a Copernican revolution for the life sciences", leads the listener through unexplored jungles and uncharted aspects of mind to the heart of knowledge. In a first-person narrative of scientific discovery that opens new perspectives on biology, anthropology, and the limits of rationalism, The Cosmic Serpent reveals how startlingly different the world around us appears when we open our minds to it.

more about shamanism than about DNA
Revisado: 06-26-18
The author's hypothesis is that shamans' hallucinogenic techniques allow them to communicate with the intelligence contained within plants' DNA. He also suggests that DNA is extraterrestrial in origin.

Convoluted portrayal of autism.
Revisado: 05-14-15
This was an entertaining story with an interesting plot and, mostly, believable characters. The portrayal of Jacob, an 18-year-old boy with Aspergers Syndrome, was disappointing, being unrealistic and over-the-top. He had nearly every Asperger trait ( where real "Aspies" each only have a few) as well as symptoms of more severe forms of autism such as "Kanner autism."
I had the central mystery of the story figured out by halfway through the book or sooner but was still in suspense over how the story would ultimately conclude.
The performances by the narrators were pretty good; Mark Turetsky was especially good. Nicole Pool sounded older top me than her character. I would have preferred to have one single narrator for the whole book. The use of multiple narrators was distracting to me and detracted from the story.
Overall, the book was worth the money but I hope that readers/listeners will not assume that the portrayal of Aspergers Syndrome is accurate.
