Read The Dispatcher first
Revisado: 11-30-24
This was great and the narrator was perfect for the role. I enjoyed this more than The Dispatcher but you have to read that first to understand this one. I would love more stories from this cosomere.

Amazing but..
Revisado: 10-15-24
I loved this book, typical Ursula, but the ending was lazy, not typical Ursula.
I wish i would have skipped the last 2 chapters, Then the story would feel unfinished but, I wouldn’t have to take away the ending which, uses a overdone evil for character development and unlikely magical powers to save them. It cheapened the story which was full of powerful questions like what is a man? how does a woman change throughout her life?
I didn’t like what she did with Ged. He was a tool to allow us to contemplate the differences between the sexes. This lessened him, instead of developing the character we had known. His quiet wisdom is replaced with a silent partner.

Pornography is powerful. Our contemporary culture as been pornified, and it shapes our assumptions about identity, sexuality, the value of women and the nature of relationships. Countless Christian men struggle with the addictive power of porn. But common spiritual approaches of more prayer and accountability groups are often of limited help.

A religious treatise
Revisado: 02-12-24
I was expecting the brain science the title suggests, not a religious treatise.
My bad,
you’re a professor at a Protestant college not an actual scientist. No actual peer reviewed research here, just your opinion.
Hard pass.
If the reader just wants to know that porn is bad, I’ll save each one of you $10 right now, listen up: porn will mess you up.
You’re welcome.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Loved it
Revisado: 06-19-23
There are several good things about this book. It took an optimistic view of intelligent species, it was scientifically accurate (as Weir always is), and because of the lack of profanity or sex topics it can be enjoyed by a wide range of readers. The only topics I can think of, that some might find difficult are discussion of suicide, drugs and alcohol.
This was a heartwarming true science fiction story. I would probably read it again.

Historia
Getting a life isn't always easy. And hanging on to it is even harder.... Jodi Taylor brings all her comic writing skills to this heartwarming tale of self-discovery. Known as The Nothing Girl because of her severe stutter and chronically low self-confidence, Jenny Dove is only just prevented from ending it all by the sudden appearance of Thomas, a mystical golden horse only she can see. Under his guidance Jenny unexpectedly acquires a husband - the charming and chaotic Russell Checkland.

This is a pleasant story with a tiny but of mystery and the right amount of British humour. Overall, it has a positive tone. I will listen to it again.

Overly simplistic but a nice story
Revisado: 09-17-17
The story was nice and, read like a children's book with very simple patterns of good and bad and very gradual character transitions. The characters were so cute that i was compelled to finish the book even though the story simplicity and character naivety & petulance made it a bit annoying.
When the story unraveled, (spoiler alert) the simplicity was somewhat softened as the evil character turned out to be someone who was not born evil but who turned evil and the characters realized their ignorance was caused by magic.
Overall, the story was a happy story, not complex, with a few poor or repetitive word choices and with really no new ideas (other than magical) to offer the reader. Good for light reading to pass the time.
Narration was good with pretty consistent character voices that were distinct enough to understand who was talking without being told.

Historia
Grateful Knight isn’t looking for love when she moves into a rent-free house on the edge of a graveyard. At 22, all she wants is to recover financially so she can move back to the city where she belongs. But sparks fly when the gorgeous cemetery caretaker, Rick, introduces himself and mentions his suspicion that her new house might be haunted. Her attraction to him seems supernatural, and, despite her resolve to not get involved, she literally can’t keep her hands off him.

I didn't want it to end
Revisado: 07-25-17
I usually read sci-fi and fantasy. This is a fantasy/romance. Once you take the initial leap into the world of witches, vampires and shape changers, the story stays consistent. If you are a nurse you may be appalled by the character's (who is a nurse) behaviour.
Very little violence (human vs. supernatural being) and mild suspense. Overall it is a fun story with lots of passionate sex.

Historia
The year is 2380. The Intersolar Commonwealth, a sphere of stars some 400 light-years in diameter, contains more than 600 worlds, interconnected by a web of transport "tunnels" known as wormholes. At the farthest edge of the Commonwealth, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the impossible: Over 1,000 light-years away, a star...vanishes. It does not go supernova. It does not collapse into a black hole. It simply disappears.

Bad narration
Revisado: 04-24-17
This was hard to listen to. My top complains are
- each sentence starts at loud volume and by the end is so soft it is hard to hear. I have to keep the volume too loud just to hear the end of each sentence.
- unable to tell when the scene or chapter ends & begins. The narrator just keeps one reading with no pause. Takes a while to figure out what just happens
- character voices not consistent.
The story took a long time to develop characters but by the end, i am ready to know more. I'm not picky about but I think I will read the next book myself.
