Historia
It’s 1936, in Flint Michigan. Times may be hard, and ten-year-old Bud may be a motherless boy on the run, but Bud’s got a few things going for him. 1. He has his own suitcase full of special things. 2. He’s the author of Bud Caldwell’s Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making a Better Liar Out of Yourself. 3. His momma never told him who his father was, but she left a clue: flyers advertising Herman E. Calloway and his famous band, the Dusky Devastators of the Depression!!!!!! Bud’s got an idea that those flyers will lead him to his father.

Historia
With accomplished precision and gentle eloquence, Jhumpa Lahiri traces the crosscurrents set in motion when immigrants, expatriates, and their children arrive, quite literally, at a cultural divide. The nine stories in this stunning debut collection unerringly chart the emotional journeys of characters seeking love beyond the barriers of nations and generations.

Like others have said, I'm not a fan of the narration. Several times I wanted to give up on the story but I wanted to know what happened to Elliott.

I love this story but just like everyone else said, the quality is poor. And weird. Please remake this with better audio!
Enjoyed the narrator and Pratchett always makes me laugh.

Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life - and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow Series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere. Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go.

Is this the world we want? Sameness?
Revisado: 10-05-14
What did you love best about The Giver?
I love that the book is capable of making even the youngest reader think about their family unit and where they fit in and how they function.
What did you like best about this story?
It's discussion of society; what's acceptable and what isn't.
Which character – as performed by Ron Rifkin – was your favorite?
I loved Rifkin's performance of Asher. I can imagine his face through his laughter.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was particularly moved when I realized, along with Jonas, how the baby was released.
Any additional comments?
It's no wonder this book is always on someone's required reading shelf. it was dystopian for kids back before dystopian was an every day word! I love this story; it's so good on so many levels and the lessons can be adapted depending on the child's age group. Why is it that we like to read about societies in which everything is the same? Is that how we as readers feel? Do we feel trapped in a world of bland, boring sameness? Or is this our greatest fear? I'm not sure what the answer is, I just know I love exploring these worlds. Maybe the answer is that if enough kids read these kinds of books they will create a world where differences are celebrated and valuable to society?
I dunno.

I'm Angry, I'm Moved, I'm in Disbeilief
Revisado: 10-03-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Audiobooks make nonfiction so much more tolerable.
What did you like best about this story?
That she lived.
Which scene was your favorite?
The introduction in which Malala reads in her own voice.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I was angry. I cried.
Any additional comments?
Wow. How incredibly moving and powerful this child's ideas are. The monsters who kill children in the name of religion? I don't get it. I also don't get why we were uninformed about so much of Pakistan's suffering. I've learned so much.

No. I would certainly be open to any of the performers.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
no idea.

More Nonstop Action!
Revisado: 10-03-14
Would you listen to Storm again? Why?
Perhaps with a different narrator.
What did you like best about this story?
I love that it's nonstop action from start to finish.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I wasn't thrilled with the voice of the narrator. It was too scratchy or something. I liked him imitation of the non American voices but that's all.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
no.
Any additional comments?
The first book in the series, SYLO, introduces us to the main characters and the problems erupting on Pemberwick Island in Maine. It's fast paced from jump and appeals to boys and girls. Its perfect for young teens who aren't quite ready for Divergent type books but might be a tad too old for standard middle grade novels.
SYLO
Then comes Storm, book two.
STORM
More non stop action! Plus you get a tour of the US and I learned some things about Nevada and not just that Las Vegas is there. I cannot wait to get my hands on the last book. Trust no one, you hear so often in the book it makes you wonder.
I love that this series is head rushing from start to finish. I listened in my car through my Audible app on the phone so I couldn't wait to get in my car and drive!
