Historia
In this moving sequel to Big Rock Candy Mountain, Bruce Mason returns to Salt Lake City, not for his aunt's funeral but to encounter after 45 years the place he fled in bitterness. A successful statesman and diplomat, Mason had buried his awkward and lonely childhood and sealed himself off from the thrills and torments of adolescence to become a figure who commanded international respect.

Excellent writing, but a lackluster story
Revisado: 01-18-22
The writing was beautiful, but the story wasn’t worth writing about. This is a beautifully written tale of an uninteresting, uneventful, sad
life. Spend your time elsewhere.

Historia
In The Road To Gandolfo, Robert Ludlum introduced us to the outrageous General MacKenzie Hawkins and his legal wizard, Sam Devereaux, whose plot to kidnap the Pope spun wildly out of control into sheer hilarity. Now Ludlum's two wayward heroes return with a diabolical scheme to right a very old wrong - and wreak vengeance on the (expletive deleted) who drummed the hawk out of the military. Their outraged opposition will be no less than the White House.

Don’t waste your time
Revisado: 11-01-21
I started this book twice hoping that something would be different. I hate the narrator’s “John Wayne pilgrim” drawl, and then the story moved to possible aliens, and I had to opt out! My husband was also listening as we were on a long drive. He kept asking why we were listening to something so incredibly uninteresting. I had to return this title without finishing.

Plot

I enjoyed the Book very much. Definitely worth reading. But,I believe there was a missed Opportunity for the author to weave into the plot more of the tunnel and maze’s importance. into the complex fabric of Nel’s life. A great effort was to mention the importance of the tunnel to the area and the maze to the family but the importance fizzled.

I literally did not put the book down
Revisado: 05-03-16
I would hesitate recommending this book to animal lovers if they have a difficult time with animals being hurt or abused. This book will break your heart. The author did a magnificent job weaving this story. I enjoyed the surprise twist at the end and the few loose ends left for the imagination.

After fifteen years in prison, he’s out . . . and there’s a G8 summit coming up, packed with enough world leaders to tempt any assassin.

Good story
Revisado: 12-30-14
What made the experience of listening to Personal the most enjoyable?
Good story, nice suspense
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator tried hard to differentiate the characters. However in doing so, he made his voice to soft to hear. I listen while walking near traffic, or while driving, and I had to constantly increase or decrease the volume.

Expected more story from Gabaldon
Revisado: 12-18-14
If you could sum up Lord John and the Private Matter in three words, what would they be?
Just not as consuming a story as other Gabaldon works.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
No
Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This performance is good
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
None
Any additional comments?
The occasional mention of Jamie Frazer's name from the Outlander books seemed a poor attempt to link this to the other blockbusters.

Historia
In a richly drawn 18th-century London, Scottish exile Lord John faces a difficult situation. His cousin Olivia is engaged to marry the Honorable Joseph Trevelyan, but he has just observed something of a rather personal nature that, if confirmed, might put an end to any talk of marital bliss. Determined to investigate further, Lord John is distracted when the Crown calls for his services. A comrade in arms has been slain, and to complicate matters, the victim may have been a traitor. Now Lord John has not one but two puzzling mysteries to solve.
