Historia
It's 2040. After decades of research, scientists of the European Union believe that they have at last conquered humankind's most pernicious foe: old age. For the first time, technology holds out the promise of not merely slowing the aging process but actually reversing it. The first subject for treatment is 78-year-old philanthropist Jeff Baker. After 18 months in a rejuvenation tank, Jeff emerges looking like a 20-year-old. And the change is more than skin deep. From his hair cells down to his DNA, Jeff is 20 - with a breadth of life experience.

Lecherous Cringe Meets Pro-Brexit Propaganda
Revisado: 06-25-24
This book is just pure patriarchal excusism for the worst sexual behavior any man could ever imagine. An aging rich old man gets an experimental therapy, paid for by the EU, to make him young again, then proceeds to screw his son's friends and girlfriend. But it's all ok because all men in their 20 just want to screw everything that walks, and should have their behavior excused because they're not actually capable of self control. The female characters only exist to either screw or mother the male characters.
Then Peter F Hamilton uses the whole story as a parable against the EU and regulations, in the most obvious and stupid way possible.
The whole story is entirely predictable, super cringey, and just short of directly racist, complete with the usual anti-immigration rhetoric.
I will never read another Peter F Hamilton book after this, and reading this has made me wonder if he's not in Epstein's little black book.

Has Not Aged Well and Scott Brick is Awful
Revisado: 08-31-23
The Story:
Asimov's writing is inspired and he manages to tell a gripping, interesting story, but he also manages to only have only one named female character who briefly makes an appearance. Additionally it's amazing that in Asimov's universe, humans have colonized the entire milky way but the one constant is that every important is done by men and they all smoke tobacco like it's a universal constant.
The Performance:
Scott Brick is just plain terrible. He uses the exact same, overdramatic intonation, pronunciation and pitch for every single character, making it very hard to tell characters apart in dialogue heavy scenes, which make up most of the book.

Absolute Trash with No Redemption

The story is extremely predictable, cliché and reads like an alt-right libertarian fantasy, complete with every stereotype the author could scrape together.

The best sci-fi I've read in a long time!
Revisado: 04-11-23
In the afterward with the author, Christopher says he set out to write a love letter to the sci-fi genre, and boy did he deliver! It's got a great story concept, wonderful characters who are believable real people with depth, and it's all tied together beautifully in a genuinely fresh, new tale backed with some good sci-fi science to make the mechanics work.
Fantastic book, and Jennifer Hale does a wonderful job performing it. I can't wait for the sequel!

Historia
The truth of discovery is on mankind's horizon, a Red Horizon. For nearly four long years, the world's superpowers have mobilized their people and resources in preparation for the next discovery, Mars. The race against one another pales in comparison to the inherent dangers of travelling through the vastness of the cosmos, going where mankind has never gone before.

A Third of a Pulp Sci-fi Rag
Revisado: 01-27-23
Not worth the price or a credit. Seems like a 1/3 or 1/4 of a book that was broken into a separate title to get more sales. Story is ok. Author makes a point to put in some light bigotry and misogyny so they can then make comments about how it would upset the “PC crowd”, and to label the character “old school”, which goes counter to the “profession NASA” environment.

The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

Did Craig Alanson use an AI to help write this?
Revisado: 12-21-22
This series has been really fun, but this book was slow, rehashed a TON of the previous books, and generally felt repetitive to the point I wonder if Craig Alanson used an AI like GPT3 or NovelAI to help fill in large sections. Really disappointing ending to the series and definitely seems like a cash grab finish to a project the author lost interest in.
R.C. Bray is great, as usual.

Plot holes and a really stiff narrator
Revisado: 10-04-22
The narrator is really stiff, which was hard to get past right at first, and once I did, I started to enjoy the story up until the plot holes. There are just so many plot holes, everywhere! It’s like the author thinks you’re stupid and/or was just plain lazy. Doesn’t even seem to have had an editor read it for more than spelling and grammar errors.

Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Craig phoned it in for quick cash
Revisado: 08-09-22
The story has its moments of entertainment, and humor, but it all feels like his Expeditionary Force series in a different setting. The main characters in both books have the exact same personality and their aquired companions fill all the same roles and use the same humor. I could almost look past that and just enjoy the silliness of the book if it weren't for the shameless plugging of audiobooks he forced in there, and the incredibly convenient plot devices/holes towards the end.
The book doesn't have an ending really, it's just a set up for the next book in what will undoubtedly be another running cash cow series.
RC Bray does an amazing job narrating as usual.

Did not age well and pretty boring
Revisado: 07-18-22
Couldn't make it half way through the first chapter. Old white man scifi. Might be considered a "classic" but I found this writing trite, uncreative and unpalatable. Author calls people "retarded children" referring to people with Downs syndrome.
Narrator performance is fine but the audio production is poor and you're going to have to listen to a lot of breath and mouth noise that wasn't edited.
