Not to be compared to the 1958 recording
Revisado: 12-21-24
The 1958 recording of Der Sängerkireg der Heidehasen is a delightful musical story. This new version kills all the charm of the earlier recording. None of the changes made offer any improvement over the other recording, and the changes seriously detract from the charm. Save your money and just buy the CD or digital download of the 1958 version. That version gets 5 stars in all categories. If you have a German speaking child, he or she will love the 1958 version.

Historia
Uncle Tom's Cabin opens with a Kentucky farmer named Arthur Shelby facing the loss of his farm because of debts. Even though he and his wife, Emily Shelby, believe that they have a benevolent relationship with their slaves, Shelby decides to raise the needed funds by selling two of them - Uncle Tom, a middle-aged man with a wife and children, and Harry, the son of Emily Shelby's maid Eliza - to a slave trader.

Very interesting novel, but the reader was poor
Revisado: 02-19-23
The story line was far more complex and nuanced that I had been led to believe. I expected a very simplistic, black-and-white morality tale. The book is deeply Christian and is clearly written for a Christian readership, but I found it did an excellent job of presenting the many viewpoints that swirled around the ante-bellum United States, even as it clearly reject any biblically based defense of slavery. The incidents of brutality depicted struck me a plausible, even if one would not necessarily encounter all of these events within the story of a single living person. But this would not be the only novel that makes a character run a gauntlet of experiences to provide a sampling of life in a particular era. Admittedly the spiritually precocious Eva is not entirely believable, but the spiritual struggles of of most of the other characters (some of which end in conversion, some of which do not) struck me as plausible. But I suspect that those unfamiliar with Christian scripture and spiritual writing will have a hard time understanding the characters. Contrary to the many reviews that rave about the performance,
I found the narrator poor, especially regarding his voice and intonation for Eva. Generally he did poorly with the female voices, and the youth of Eva only compounded this general failing. A better narrator might have made the Eva character more believable. I am not familiar with true southern speech patterns and perhaps Richard Allen has capture an authentic southern voice, but I found it distracting and not well differentiated among the different characters. Were I picking again, I would probably choose a female narrator, although I generally prefer listen to the deeper male voice.

Milton Friedman and his wife, Rose, teamed up to write this most convincing and readable guide, which illustrates the crucial link between Adam Smith's capitalism and the free society. They show how freedom has been eroded and prosperity undermined through the rapid growth of governmental agencies, laws, and regulations.

More important than ever
Revisado: 08-31-22
This book should be required reading for every high school student and college student, as well as their parents. For a book written 40 years ago, it accurately describes our situation today in frightening detail.

Excellent presentation of A Christmas Carol

The narrator did an excellent job of interpreting Dickens' work. Our family thoroughly enjoyed this book.
