Historia
From the chef behind Momofuku and star of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious—an intimate account of the making of a chef, the story of the modern restaurant world that he helped shape, and how he discovered that success can be much harder to understand than failure. Full of grace, candor, grit, and humor, Eat a Peach chronicles David Chang’s switchback path. Along the way, Chang gives us a penetrating look at restaurant life, in which he balances his deep love for the kitchen with unflinching honesty about the industry’s history of brutishness and its uncertain future.

The bits about mental health are good.
Revisado: 11-20-21
This is primarily a book about Chang's outbursts and tirades. He makes clear that many of the episodes are from the very recent past, and yet this book comes off as advice or self-help for readers. It's hard to take it seriously, knowing that the author himself is somewhat out of control. That being said, Chang shares valuable insights regarding depression and bi-polar disorder.

From celebrated New York Times best-selling author and winner of the Pulitzer Prize Rick Bragg comes a poignant and wryly funny collection of essays on life in the South. Keenly observed and written with his insightful and deadpan sense of humor, Bragg explores enduring Southern truths about home, place, spirit, table, and the regions' varied geographies, including his native Alabama, Cajun country, and the Gulf Coast.

Saccharine sweet Southern fantasy
Revisado: 01-06-21
Maybe this dreamed-up fantasy of the South sounds romantic to non-Southerners, but it comes off as utterly contrived, artificial and self-righteous to this fellow Georgian.

Historia
At the request (well, it wasn't really a request) of his employers, Augusten lands in rehab, where his dreams of group therapy with Robert Downey Jr. are immediately dashed by grim reality of fluorescent lighting and paper hospital slippers. When Augusten is forced to examine himself, he finds himself in the worst trouble of all. Because when his thirty days are up, he has to return to his same drunken Manhattan life - and live it sober. Dry is the story of love, loss, and Starbucks as a Higher Power

Great story but hard to listen to
Revisado: 09-22-20
A good, funny and inspiring memoir, read (somewhat excruciatingly) by the author himself. Probably best enjoyed in print.

Historia
“Sam, could you do me a favor?” Thus begins a story that has now become part of America's true-crime hall of fame. It is a gory, grotesque tale befitting a Stephen King novel. It is also a David and Goliath saga - the story of a young lawyer fresh from the public defender's office whose first client in private practice turns out to be the worst serial killer in our nation's history. This is a gripping true crime narrative that reenacts the gruesome killings and the famous trial that shocked a nation.

Not a book I would recommend to anyone
Revisado: 09-02-20
This book is a self-gratifying tribute from the author to himself. I don't recommend it.

Historia
The saga of John Kennedy Toole is one of the greatest stories of American literary history. In Butterfly in the Typewriter, Cory MacLauchlin draws on scores of new interviews with friends, family, and colleagues as well as full access to the extensive Toole archive at Tulane University, capturing his upbringing in New Orleans, his years in New York City, his frenzy of writing in Puerto Rico, his return to his beloved city, and his descent into paranoia and depression.

Historia
The hero of John Kennedy Toole's incomparable, Pultizer Prize–winning comic classic is one Ignatius J. Reilly, an obese, self-absorbed, hapless Don Quixote of the French Quarter, whose half-hearted attempts at employment lead to a series of wacky adventures among the lower denizens of New Orleans.

My favorite book, butchered.
Revisado: 05-11-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The written version of this book is one of my all-time favorites, but the narrator of the audiobook simply ruins it.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator was robotic and sucked the life out of the story.
Any additional comments?
I would love to see another version of this book (with a different narrator) on Audible.

There's no doubt about it, breakups suck. But in the first few hours or days or weeks that follow, there's one important truth you need to recognize: Some things can't and shouldn't be fixed, especially that loser who dumped you or forced you to dump him.

Helpful, but annoying
Revisado: 03-30-16
This is helpful during the desperate time after a breakup, but the male narrator is annoying af. I had to skip several of his parts because he was infuriatingly corny.
