Don't waste your time

I couldn't get past chapter 4, This book is less about criminal profiling and more about the author congratulating himself on all the interesting things he feels he's done throughout his life. I initially read the other reviews saying basically the same thing and thought they must be wrong. I have read other John E. Douglas books and though he does have a very large ego, it never bothered me too much. But this is on a whole other level. Save yourself the time, find another book.

This book focuses on a number of cults and their respective leaders, including Paul Twitchell and Eckankar, John-Roger Hinkins and MSIA, Gary Olsen and MasterPath, Andrew Cohen, Sathya Sai Baba, Father Yod, and the Brotherhood of the Source presents a critical and inside look at how these groups operate. Also included our essays on UFOs, Edgar Cayce, and the politics of mysticism. This is a new edition of Professor Lane's 1993 book of the same title. Controversial and quite original.

This book is NOT about exposing cults...
Revisado: 05-09-19
I can barely make it past chapter 4. This author spent an entire chapter discussing a not very interesting meeting he once had with a cult guru. He then spent the next chapter talking about how he once spoke in tongues and the spiritual experience of that whole thing. I thought I was going to hear about how cult leaders are able to maintain control over their follows or facts about the process of brainwashing, etc. Instead, it's chapter after chapter of boring anecdotes that never quite amount to anything. I really wanted to like this book - I'm very interested in cults and how smart, educated people can get sucked into them. This was not that kind of book.
