Excellent, fast moving and keeps one engaged.
Revisado: 12-14-22
I absolutely loved this fast moving never boring story; If you want to escape life for nearly 10 hrs this is the book to listen to. All of it good, only exception was the twist toward the end was too much, basically impossible with characters crossing over. Other than that if could have been almost thought of non ficton. The coincidence of the characters interlacing was to me too much of a stretch. However others may see that differently . I highly recommend the book and will be looking for more by Julie Clark. The narration was excellent. Very easy to listen to the voices, clear, concise and pleasant. I often look for books by the Narrators before I look for the author; if I can't enjoy the voices I pass on listening to the book. Well Done!

Perfect Timing
Revisado: 09-17-22
I elected to read this book at the end of August. Never at that time could I imagine today we would be facing the passing of the Queen with the worlds eyes once again so focused on the Royal Family. I enjoyed the book, most of it. Some of it was very foreign to me since my world is vastly different then what life is like for people living under the Monarchy. I have a better sense of who each person is through this authors eyes. At the end of the book I will say I was or am in total agreement with Meagan & Harry electing to live their lives as they see fit. I wish the family all the best (it’s got be difficult to be born into your destination without your own say) and especially Harry and Meagan.

Historia
Alva Smith, her Southern family destitute after the Civil War, married into one of America’s great Gilded Age dynasties: the newly wealthy but socially shunned Vanderbilts. Alva defied convention for women of her time, asserting power within her marriage and becoming a leader in the women's suffrage movement. In A Well-Behaved Woman, Therese Anne Fowler paints a glittering world of enormous wealth contrasted against desperate poverty, of social ambition and social scorn, of friendship and betrayal, and an unforgettable story of a remarkable woman.

So worth your time.

Not usual for me to read from this particular era, but grateful I elected to try it. I have already recommended the book to several friends who are strong and independent and who I know if given the chance they will equally enjoy this book. Ironically I had just finished watching "The Gilded Age." Perhaps that is what enticed me to read about the Vanderbilts. I found the attention to detail and the talent to put one inside the time and space of the story was most entertaining. I also found many things have not changed in the behavior of our species with some inexcusable behavior. The narrator's voice is very pleasant to listen to and fit the character perfectly. I will seek out more books by the author as well as the narrator. Excellent!

I must say listening to this book the last couple weeks was worth an entire year of membership an audible and then some. The only thing I would add would be to have a workbook to go along with it because many times I wanted to stop and make notes but since I was listening to it driving or gardening or working I was not able to easily write down what I wanted to remember. However I highly recommend this book everyone should be educated on all the vast information on how our body he needs clean water not what we filled it with

Historia
When Dominique Crenn was awarded three Michelin Stars in 2018 for her influential San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn, she became the first female chef in the United States to receive this highly coveted honor. Filled with stories from the years Crenn spent working in the male-centric world of professional kitchens, tracking her career from struggling cook to being named the World’s Best Female Chef, starring on Netflix's Chef's Table, and running one of the world’s most acclaimed restaurants, Rebel Chef is disarmingly honest and revealing.

A Marriage of two Countries
Revisado: 07-19-20
What an absolute delight to have leaned of Dominique Crenn while watching Sunday Morning just a week ago. I decided to explore and learn a bit more about her. I was happy to find she had just released a book and since I have a kindred spirt about France due to my "adopted by love" daughter for the past 25 years who loves to cook and resides in Toulouse, I knew it was a must read for me. I just finished listening to this enchanting book, which was written so well, it is hard to believe English was Dominique's second language. She is so well spoken, her adjectives/adverbs were so right on, I often found myself thinking about her words long after they were spoken. When I was Into the book, maybe by the third chapter I said to myself this young woman with such a tenacious spirt must be Leo. And learned indeed she is. Some may laugh at that, but for me I often see such a "driven force with Leo's, especially women."
I was moved in so many way with the way Dominique opened up with such personal details of her life and yet while doing so offered lessons to others by what her journey had provided her. I am not a cook though raised three children, somehow managed to get by, and yet the story was still captivating to me on so many levels. Maybe partly was my trip to France and the small Village in which I stayed, I could relate to France, or it was my birthplace of San Francisco that I felt connected to her. Either way I was sorry when it ended. I found her to be of the upmost class, with incredible talent and grace. I am fondly grateful she opened her wonderful story up to the world. I highly recommend this book, have already recommended it to my friends and my daughter in France and my two daughters in San Diego. It is a remarkable story. She's a remarkable person.
