Historia
Malcolm Gladwell has long relished the opportunity to skewer the upper echelons of higher education, from the institution of U.S. News & World Report’s Best College rankings to the LSATs to the luxe Bowdoin College cafeteria. I Hate the Ivy League: Riffs and Rants on Elite Education, upends the traditional thinking around how education should work and tries to get to the bottom of why we often reward the wrong people.

Excellent arguments made
Revisado: 12-30-22
Not at all surprising, a well thought out approach to Malcolm’s ideas, made me reconsider some of my positions.

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Makes you think on a deeper level, not just a book about physical accomplishment
Revisado: 07-18-20
Clearly a driven individual, but I still found myself questioning to what end was Goggins driven? Did his drive and remarkable accomplishments bring him happiness or whatever else it was he was after? I found the delivery of his story was done in an excellent way, in contrast to a book on a similar topic by Angela Duckworth called Grit, which while I found it to be a generally worthwhile read, came across to me often as a humble brag. Goggins is honest one this book, not leaving out the “ugly” parts of his stories, his transformation from the beginning of his story to the end is quite impressive. The main message I took from his was to believe in yourself while remaining completely honest with yourself, not to be confined by what others see as the limits of your capabilities.

Historia
Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius was the final famous Stoic philosopher of the ancient world. The Meditations, his personal journal, survives to this day as one of the most loved self-help and spiritual classics of all time. In How to Think Like a Roman Emperor, psychotherapist Donald Robertson weaves stories of Marcus’s life from the Roman histories together with explanations of Stoicism—its philosophy and its psychology—to enlighten today’s listeners. He discusses Stoic techniques for coping with everyday problems, from irrational fears and bad habits to anger, pain, and illness.

Important note: This is an audiobook summary of Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb - this is not the original audiobook. Antifragile is a stand-alone book in Nassim Nicholas Taleb's landmark Incerto series, an investigation of opacity, luck, uncertainty, probability, human error, risk, and decision-making in a world we don't understand. The other books in the series are Fooled by Randomness, The Black Swan, and The Bed of Procrustes.

Historia
One of the most significant books ever written by a head of state, the Meditations are a collection of philosophical thoughts by the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121 - 180 ce). Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.

Changed my life for the better, without a doubt
Revisado: 07-18-20
I never thought I would ever read a book like this, I never thought a book written two thousand years ago would have such direct influence on my life and provide such practical insights to today’s world, it is as if it was written yesterday in that regard. Such a pure and beautiful perspective on life. I have listened to it many times and never get tired of it. It has started me down a road studying Stoic philosophy which has forever changed me, I wish I read it 30 years ago.

Life changing
Revisado: 02-13-19
The ideas in this book, written 2,000 years ago, ring true as if they were written yesterday. Simply stated and understandable Marcus Aurelius presents ideas that can be applied to our everyday life. Not a feel good book full of affirmations, but rather a practical guide to deal with real life events and personal struggles. It has changed my way of viewing things I thought I had already figured out.
