Historia
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother. As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was.

Tried to like this book
Revisado: 05-25-23
My major issue with this volume is the implausible plot line…I could not .suspend my disbelief in order to enjoy the story. The characters are also underdeveloped…..
I wonder if my under appreciation could be an age related issue as it read like cliff notes. I will admit that I prefer rereading a great novel like Anna Karenina to such a “thin” novel.
My apologies to ms Dave.

Newly widowed and the father of an infant son, Henry VIII realizes he must marry again to ensure the royal succession. Forty-six, overweight, and suffering from gout, Henry is soundly rejected by some of Europe's most eligible princesses. Anna of Kleve, from a small German duchy, is 24 and has a secret she is desperate to keep hidden. Henry requests her portrait from his court painter, who portrays her from the most flattering perspective. Henry is entranced by the lovely image, only to be bitterly surprised when Anna arrives in England and he sees her in the flesh.

I am a serious fan of both Tudor history as well as Alison Weir, I was disappointed in this volume. I chose it as I was hoping to view the life of this woman imagined by a gifted historian, such as Barbara Tuchman. For me this volume pales in comparison to Weir’s extraordinary nonfiction works.

Beautiful narration of of this well known and loved mystery. Stories of this quality are few and far between. The Hitchcock film is also outstanding, holding its mystery for me since my mom and I watched this together in the 50s. The film is not a spoiler for the novel.

An American classic of the existential crisis of an expatriate. Should not be essential reading for the college student....but set aside for those changing careers, spouses or retirement. A great companion to Walter Huston’s classic film.

Historia
Frédéric Chopin is the pianist-composer par excellence. Regarded as one of the most mesmerizing performers of his day, he lives on in his music – his waltzes, mazurkas, études, preludes, nocturnes, three piano sonatas, two piano concertos, and much more. Here, his life, from his birth in Poland, his famous affair with the French writer George Sand, to his death at the age of 39 in Paris, is told with his music featuring prominently. We think of Chopin as a "frail, sheltered genius" but this forthright portrait demonstrates he was far more boisterous than that.

Frederic Chopin
Revisado: 03-24-17
Beautifully crafted Portrait of Chopin and his major works. Amazingly informative given the relatively brief volume. A major strength is that the author skillfully allows the music to inform the reader. Works are beautifully and skillfully performed.
A major weakness is lack of an accompanying list of performed works as well as information about the pianist.
Highly recommend this audiobook for both pianists and non musicians alike.

Historia
In the last and most complex of the Barsetshire novels, many of Trollope's best-loved characters appear, but the mood of the novel is darker and more uneasy than in earlier volumes. At the heart of the novel is the penniless Reverend Josiah Crawley, first encountered in Framley Parsonage, who in the opening of the book is accused of theft, creating a public scandal that threatens to tear the community apart.

Wonderful, rich narrative......a treasure
Revisado: 08-08-16
I was so sad to part from Trollope's characters at the end of this volume. After either reading or listening to all six books in this series, it is amazing to want the story to continue.
Anyone who enjoys Austen, will enjoy reading Trollope and will appreciate the broader perspective and detail the author brings to many of the same sociopolitical issues. And of course the essential trait of a good novel is the ability to engage us is the lives of the characters!
Trollope has been criticized for writing about the "ordinary" and for constructing plot resolutions that are perhaps too simplistic and optimistic, however I think these are not weaknesses. Reading is a pleasure for me and an escape. I am not unappreciative of a happy ending.
Fortunately, Trollope was a prolific author with many of his works available from Audible.
A word about Timothy West......he is an excellent and enjoyable narrator, simply the best I have encountered to date. I have many of his works in my audible wish list.

The definitive account of the O. J. Simpson trial, The Run of His Life is a prodigious feat of reporting that could have been written only by the foremost legal journalist of our time. First published less than a year after the infamous verdict, Jeffrey Toobin's nonfiction masterpiece tells the whole story, from the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman to the ruthless gamesmanship behind the scenes of "the trial of the century".

Ever interesting story and narrative of our times. This particular work included some enlightening aspects of OJ's saga, however the narration was inexcusable .......could not believe the numbers of mispronunciations! Also, not a pleasant voice. The narrator should apologize to the author!
