Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

Historia
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Twisting story
Revisado: 04-14-25
I had a hard time following in the beginning but it became more clear as I went. Captivating story and the British narration became a lullaby.

Over descriptive
Revisado: 03-21-25
Sounded like endless word vomit that became annoying with each minute of listening. I tried to like it, but it meandered around into the land of boredom. The narrator was excellent but the storyline needed to be sent to a chopping block.

I love Aiden Bailey’s writing but this book has outdone everything I’ve read. It kept me wondering and guessing all the way and then surprised me. I can hardly wait for the next in this series. So riveting and brilliantly written.
The audio part was well done. Loved the pace of it and how the narrator changed up the voices. It added to the experience of this book. Since I’m losing my vision, I’m thankful this was made into an audio book

Worth The Wait
Revisado: 10-23-23
I was excited to read this and see what Mitch and his wife were up to. Hopefully we’ll see what happens next in their lives. I loved every bit of the book. He held my interest and towards the end I could not put it down. Who needs sleep when there is a Grisham book to read. It was well worth the wait to read since the Firm came out. I actually went back and reread the Firm right before reading this. Great job John. Keep bringing your “A” game. And the audio book was excellent.

I loved every minute of this and the way John Grisham weaved the layers together. The ending I could not have foreseen and I love that about John Grisham’s books. It was a pleasure reading this book using the audio version.
