Historia
Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

Historia
If there is one belief that has united the left and the right, psychologists and philosophers, ancient thinkers and modern ones, it is the tacit assumption that humans are bad. It's a notion that drives newspaper headlines and guides the laws that shape our lives. From Machiavelli to Hobbes, Freud to Pinker, the roots of this belief have sunk deep into Western thought. Human beings, we're taught, are by nature selfish and governed primarily by self-interest.

Every human should read/listen to this book
Revisado: 01-09-23
I want to listen to it over and over. It's thesis is well laid out and walks you through step by step through the history, sociology, anthropology, psychology and even theology to how the author arrived at it's conclusions. It will change your mind and hopefully your daily interactions for the better

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

He's just perpetuating trauma on others
Revisado: 02-06-22
He can't even recognize that even his book and his mindset is more evidence of how deep his childhood trauma still effects him. He's a child expressing his deep continual need for unconditional love by constantly seeking to prove he is worthy of it. And willingness to self flagellate to get the "hit". The story ends with his vision of God listing before him all the things he was supposed to do with his life (literally things he's done) and describes himself as living his life with a literal fear of God being disappointed in him for not "doing enough" with his life. That is exactly a manifestation of his deep trauma response and he can't even see it. He was never unconditionally loved. It's a heartbreaking autobiography but do not take his advice as something close to healthy. Just because a human being can give themselves heart failure and foot fractures doesn't mean they actually SHOULD. We also don't all have military funded health insurance to pay for it. Sure, get off the couch. Don't make excuses. You are your own limitations on many of your life's disappointments as an adult, literally schedule out your priorities.... great practical advice. He doesn't mention much about his failed marriages, only mentioning at the end he was very lonely at times but he "didn't need friends" or to "waste time" with conversations with loved ones after the food of dinner has been eaten. He briefly mentions he had a child but nothing about fatherhood. He doesn't see that he was winning to FAIL at being a husband, a father and a friend for the sake of choosing success of "running on two broken legs". Most of us would rather have successful and happy marriages, a loving and connected relationship in parenting and social connections with other human beings not just ourselves. And that's TOTALLY OKAY. THAT'S HEALTHY. That's not being a pussy. He can call those people limp dicks if he'd like but until he's grown a literal life on his bladder and pushed a 8,9,10 pound bowling ball through his penis then he can talk about women's genetalia being the weaker variety.
