Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Story and narration succeed
Revisado: 01-22-25
Time travel is my jam, and I have been a fan of Stephen King since he scared me into wearing a cross as a preteen after reading ‘Salem’s Lot. This is a fantastic story, and I listened and read it. Both formats work, so choose your poison with confidence.
This was a wild ride as only Mr. King could give us. Let him drive, and don’t wear your seatbelt: you can trust him.

My name is Cain Sthyldor, a former assassin for the fae. I've met Death in person, I'm cursed by Cthulhu, know a gorgon, and have a pet octopus named Fred. I may not be a wizard from Chicago, an iron druid on the run, a hot-tempered maker who hates Girl Scouts, or part of a destructive duo from New York City, but I guarantee you'll be entertained.

Great story, but characters sounded very similar
Revisado: 10-29-24
The story was a wild ride and I was sucked in immediately. The story resolved the way I expected, which I do not mind; I will check out the next book in the series — but I will try it in print or ebook because the voices in the audiobook weren’t different enough character to character to easily keep track when there were more than two characters speaking. All of the women sounded masculine and all of the young people sounded very childish. Good story, though, so I recommend this book.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Is there such thing as a Western Taoist? Benjamin Hoff says there is, and this Taoist's favorite food is honey.

An easy way to understand Taoism
Revisado: 05-07-24
Sometimes, philosophy can be intimidating and confusing — but not when explained through the world of Winnie the Pooh. Occasionally, it gets a little Pooh-heavy, but only a smidge and it rights itself.
If you want a charming and direct explanation of Taoism with whimsy and joy, this is the book for you.

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

An incredible book with great narration
Revisado: 02-19-23
This book was among the most important books I have read in my life. It is well written and the narration is exquisite.
The narration gives the text a spirit and intimacy, and listening to great writers, thinkers, and artists made the experience even more poignant.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Great story, great narration
Revisado: 01-08-23
Readers will meet the most remarkable characters in this book, and their stories will unfold in the most unexpected ways. It’s an amazing ride through the world of loss and love, surprises and second chances, hope and rocky roads. The story builds steadily with the help of reliable narrators.
I do not want to say too much because I enjoyed the unspooling of the tale, but I must applaud the narrators — they brought the book to life, and I am grateful I listened to it.

A good performance of a classic story
Revisado: 12-28-22
Hugh grant is a good narrator of this book. There were a few times when the characters’ voices were rather similar — but Dickens was a storyteller, too, and added attribution was perfectly placed for everyone’s sake.

Powerful, Profound, Stunning
Revisado: 12-18-22
This is an amazing audiobook: the narration is exquisite and passionate, and her voice remains a reliable tool. I am so glad I had to opportunity to hear her read it.
The writing of her personal revelations about her life starts out strong and just keeps getting stronger. I was sobbing by the end of the first chapter as Viola told the truth, her truth, and I was her witness. I am a fan of her work, and this book makes me even more so. Her obstacles are unbelievable, and heartbreaking. Now, I am a fan of her as a person, too.
This book should be required reading in every college, in every degree program. I have read about poverty, but not until Viola revealed her experiences did I truly understand — as much as I am able.
I am profoundly grateful for her courage and honesty. I strongly recommend this for everyone, as they are able.

Charming, Compelling - but abridged
Revisado: 11-19-22
However wonderful you think this book is, it's more.
Dolly (yes, we're on a first-name basis!) is smart, talented, savvy, funny, humble.... and more; this book illustrates why she is an American treasure. If you want to know more about her, this is a great place to start. And you'll listen to it more than once, even if you're not a re-reader. I mean, it's DOLLY. You can't resist, and you wouldn't want to. Plus, you hear Dolly talk, sing snatches of songs, opine, explain, and laugh. Her laughter makes this book worth every penny or credit you spend on it.
My only quibble is that the narration does not match the book text. It didn't take away from Dolly's words, but there were some good nuggets of information in the written text. When I listen again, I'll read along on the page as well. But don't let that deter you: this audiobook is perfect as it is, and you simply must hear Dolly tell her story.
Listen to this book about this amazing woman, and be inspired.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Great Weir, Great Dawson
Revisado: 01-24-22
Andy Weir has proven in each of his books that he can write an edge-of-seat thriller that keeps the reader informed along the way. I am no science nerd, and I don’t have to be. Andy tells you what you need to know when you need to know it, in the most masterful, unobtrusive ways possible If he writes the phone book, I am buying it in every format available.
The audiobook takes it a step further: Rosario Dawson presents Jaz, and every other character, with a flawless performance that brings them to life with an unequalled electricity and humanity.
I salute the author’s vision of the human landscape of Artemis, with a realistic demographic and a surprisingly egalitarian structure. Fiction, particularly science fiction, needs to remain abreast of our evolution beyond the white patriarchy. This book does that subtly and realistically. Thanks, Andy and Rosario, for also making it a rip-roaring ride on the moon.
