I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request, in exchange for an honest review.

“Razor’s Pass, Ascension Series Book 2” opens with scenes that leave no room for any doubt whatsoever that Kita has a dark side. If you’re the squeamish type, or if you like your heroines who fight evil without, well…evil, then you might seriously want to consider another series. If however, you’re intrigued by the idea of an anti-hero who is both likable and detestable, then I cannot recommend this series highly enough.

In book 2, there’s plenty of action and political intrigue (and yes, some of the action explicitly confirms that Kita is lesbian, and that the war-cat queen Snowy is very interested in Kita!). In between the action, though, much of this book advances the relationships between Kita and her growing team of close friends, especially Snowy, Cowboy and Zidin. Omega, while completely intertwined with Kita, isn’t quite a friend, but is often integral to the survival of Kita and others. Omega is curious about the nature of love, and often acts in ways that will help it/her increase the understanding of emotions.

The narrator, Mary L Phillips, continues to do an amazing job with all of the characters. I should’ve said more in my review of Birthright, because it’s not until the end of book 2 that my favorite of her accents is put back to use: Scottish. Her accent for her mother especially, and for all of her clan is, to my ears, fantastic! She must not be American, because she pronounces omega with the British pronunciation, which sort of drove me a little crazy even though it’s correct! The other accent I found amusing was her voice for Snowy. She sounded Japanese, and I kept picturing images of Japanese manga cats…hardly war-cat-like! It’s a credit to her versatility that she manages to create a wide range of voices, both male and female!

One nitpick with the characters of Kita and Snowy is that they are constantly overly insecure about their relationship, literally running off and slamming doors. Kita just turned 24, and has experienced love and sex before. Snowy is, well…no spoilers, but is considerably older and was married for many years. Yet, they often sound and act like 16yo’s just at the edge of womanhood and newfound emotions.

There are plenty of terrific new and old characters both, and I won’t spoil things for you because some of the surprises are, well….surprising!

5* for Razor’s Pass. I recommend you listen to the audiobook, and I very much look forward to continuing the series!

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request, in exchange for an honest review.

“Birthright, Ascension Series Book 1” exceeded my expectations! I anticipated a story about a daughter having to prove herself in a man’s world; a world of nobles and swords. Yes, it was that, but as the story progressed we learn that the Legionnaires, charged with keeping peace and assisting the King as needed, use ancient alien technology!

I like that Kita, our valiant MC, is determined to win her battles rather than die with honor, as instructed by the men in her orbit. I also like that she is also deeply flawed, crying as she comes down from her berserker rages, and struggling to understand herself. Yet, as flawed as she is, she is very admirable. She is determined to obtain great power in defiance of men who are determined that she learn her place in a man’s world.

I keeping with the Kita vs. men theme, she is a lesbian. In “Birthright” there are references to past lovers, but even the phrase “fade to black” doesn’t convey the complete and utter lack of descriptive sexual scenes. I don’t know whether future books will be explicit as Kita finds new lovers, but I hope so! I don’t know whether author L. Fergus is male or female; some successful male writers of lesfic shy away from explicit scenes.

Glancing through the author’s Patreon, I’ve discovered that “Birthright” is not just book one in the “Ascension” series, but is part of the “Kitaverse”! Other books and series interweave with each other in ways I’ve yet to learn.

This is my first exposure to the narrator, in addition to the Kitaverse, and I’m very happy with the narration.

5* for Birthright, and I very much look forward to the sequel and other audiobooks by the author!

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request, in exchange for an honest review.

“The Cassidy Chronicles” is an entertaining near-future science fiction story featuring likable mildly incompetent secret agents entertaining us as they chase and run away from each other. There’s lots of humor and “in” sci-fi jokes throughout. The narrator does a wonderful job.

I was disappointed to discover that the MCs are not lesbians, they are bisexual. Their past and current sexual escapades with male partners are as significant as the relationship between the two women MCs. As a matter of fact, the two women marry a third MC, a male, to form a throuple marriage.

My biggest disappointment is with the author. While there is nothing wrong with a man writing lesfic, or using a penname, there is something completely wrong about catfishing. Successful lesbian author Jae recently published an in-depth exposé on Adam Gaffen creating an elaborate fake persona, “AC Adams”. Jae said “He had no reason to assume the persona of a queer woman other than to deceive a marginalized community for his own gain”.

So while I enjoyed the story and the narration, I cannot recommend that listeners support this author and his deceptions.

Sometimes it’s not clear whether an Amber Collings book is ff or mf, even from the reviews. I thought the story sounded silly and interesting, so I requested a review copy. I’m glad I did; it was fun, and Ruan Willow did her usual excellent job narrating.

For the record - there are lesbians in this story (yay!), but there are also mf and threesome playtimes.

Basically, an alien spacecraft crashes on earth, and her size regulator is damaged, growing her to 50’ tall, and also growing MC Clara to 50’ tall. Clara’s girlfriend Sidney, and two male and one female farm workers enjoy the size differences! With all the pot consumption, hemp clothing manufacturing and frequent orgies, everyone loses interest in creating a shrink machine to reduce the alien Freeya and Clara to normal size.

FTB in a few places just as things began, but all-in-all, a fun story!

I was intrigued by “Passion to Seduce” because it presented an explicit age-gap adventure with an older woman and a younger woman, the opposite of another recent age-gap adventure I’d recently listened to narrated by Ruan Willow.

The good news is that there’s lots of lesbian sex, and 18yo MC Jennifer is as much an eager leaner as MC Viv is an enthusiastic teacher. In addition, the narrators are very good, although I needed to speed up the narration, which I generally don’t do.

The less than good news is that this book is completely PWP - porn without plot. I enjoyed the other book (Magic in Her Kisses) because of the believable characters. Here, we open with two women being closeted in Mississippi in the 80’s (why the 80’s, I don’t know) who immediately upon meeting declare their desire for women. GIven that it’s Jennifer’s 18th birthday, Viv quickly offers her a birthday present. Normally as submissive, Viv decides to act upon her domination fantasies with Jennifer. Very cardboard characters.

So I have to rate this story as 3*, with 5* narration, blended for 4* overall.

“Jayne's Dollhouse - The Just a Few Inches Series, Book 5” was entertaining, but it spent waaay too much time with the girls outside of the dollhouse.

As a child, I was awed by Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Google it; it’s absolutely amazing! As an adult, I was immediately drawn to “Jayne’s Dollhouse”; what an adventure it would be to do more than have tea in the Fairy Castle!!

Unfortunately, MC Jayne’s girlfriend Sam is afraid of shrinking, and she questions the purchase of a Victorian dollhouse for their playtime. Cue the arrival of Jayne’s sister’s friend Dana. Jayne and Sam’s relationship allows playing with others, and Dana is interested in the shrinking serum. Yes, they do shrink down and enter the dollhouse, but most of the short story revolves around a countdown of shrinking down…5 feet, 4 feet, 3 feet…I wish they’d just shrunk and played in the dollhouse!

Once in the dollhouse, they overshrink, and even the doll clothes, meant for 10 inch girls, are too big for their 3 inches. They play, they wake, they grow. Fun, but it didn’t quite scratch my Fairy Castle itch.

The narrator did a great job, but she sounded better to me played at 1.1x speed. 4* for the story, 5* for the narrator, 4* overall.

An Age-Gap Story With Believable Characters!

As required by U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations and Audible requirements, I am disclosing that I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request. I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.

I hesitated requesting a review copy of “Magic in Her Kisses”, because age-gap stories are generally not my favorite trope. They are very popular though, and in the end I was intrigued enough by the blurb that I did request a copy. Wow! Am I glad I did!

Twenty-one year old college student Alicia fantasizes about, and puts the move on, her 40-something Professor Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Maddie Lillian. Yes, the good doctor has seven degrees! She quickly begins earning an additional, unofficial, degree in BDSM domination! And by quickly, think of a sex-fest lesfic story such as Meghan O’Brien’s “Her Best Friend's Sister”.

The student-teacher setting is perfect for an age-gap story. Author/narrator Ruan Willow had fun with the story, and turned the relationship upside down from expectations; it’s the younger woman seducing the older woman. And yet, it’s still the older woman who quickly takes charge in the bedroom, to the delightful surprise of both MCs. And by bedroom, I mean bedroom, school lab, living room, bathtub, and shopping mall dressing room. Please, do NOT listen to this audiobook in your car with the windows down!! Been there, done that ;)

Do listen to the audiobook (rather than just read the Kindle book), though. While authors reading their own work isn’t generally the best narration, Ruan Willow gives a wonderful listening experience!

Alicia’s controlling ex (Logan; Alicia is bi) makes a brief appearance via texts, but it’s her mother that provides the spark for the typical “break up before the make up” event. Unlike many lesfic books where the angst is inserted without making any sense, Maddie’s subsequent hesitation to continue the relationship is believable, and based in love for Alicia.

I enjoyed both MCs and their story. The only thing that bugged me, and it’s so minor I hesitate to mention it, is that the MCs kept referring to Maddie “pegging” Alicia. I checked in with several friends, and we all agree that “pegging” only refers to a man on the receiving end. Perhaps the author isn’t as lesbian/bi as her characters!

Easily a 5* audiobook; I’ll enjoy re-listening to this one!

I have listened to the audiobook, and I have voluntarily left an honest review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating nor my review.

“Fighting Her Touch” changed the narrator from book 1, which initially disappointed me but the new narrator did a fantastic job, and I’m looking forward to hearing her again on book 3 of the series.

A few of the characters from book 1 make reappearances, but book 2 focuses on our two new MCs: Liz and Marissa. My favorite character in the book, btw, was side character Samantha! I have to say I looked ahead to the blurb for book 3, hoping it would feature Samantha. Alas…not to be.

Yes, it probably says something about how I feel about the MCs if my review focuses first on a side character. I just couldn’t connect with Liz, the younger of the two MCs. She succumbed to an engagement with a man to make her parents happy. Happily for us, he’s rushed off to France for business, and monkey business, so he’s not a big part of the book. My biggest issue with Liz was the cavalier way she treated her employment; frankly, after accepting an engagement she doesn’t want, her job decision really screamed “immature” to an older love interest and just didn’t seem appropriate to the love story.

MC Marisa is eighteen years older than Liz, and is having a difficult time moving on from her ex. She wants a stable relationship, and is concerned about Liz being too young. While some age-gap stories make the gap work, in this case the MCs just sort of ended up together. I didn’t quite get the “fight” for each other.

Eiffel Tower as a fun toy amongst the carnage

The blurb says “The carnival was nothing compared to the carnage they’ll bring to the City of Light”. In retrospect, I overlooked a rather large clue that “Our Massive Day in Paris” would be less light-hearted than was “Our Massive Day at the Carnival”.

I really enjoy Amber Collins’ unusual stories; especially the fun, flirty ones. She does, though, include a variety of stories in her vast shrinking/growing library, including some with violent characters, and even vore. “Our Massive Day in Paris” finds our erstwhile silly MCs Carolyn and Danielle now malicious, happily squishing people along with buildings.

My favorite part of the book was when they used the Eiffel Tower exactly as I surmised as soon as I saw the cover! The narrator continued delivering a terrific performance. While the story was more violent than I expected, I can’t fault the author; she did give fair warning. It’s a short story, and someday when I’m in a grumpy mood toward people I might re-listen to it; it might yet grow on me ;)

“Our Massive Day at the Carnival” was fun to listen to. The narrator has a terrific, perky voice that really enhanced the story.

After a carnival animatronic fortune teller predicts that their love will soar to new heights, MCs Danielle and Carolyn find themselves inexplicably getting bigger…and hornier! Yep, the key to growth is sexual arousal (and activities!).

I liked that fellow carnival goers, and the carnies, pretty much ignored the oddity of two women being seven, eight, and even ten and eleven feet tall. Once they reached 200’ feet tall, people were watching the giant naked women! At 300’ tall, they were still making out as the story ended. Yep - I’m looking forward to the sequel! 5*
