The story of the women in Vietnam, the war itself & how our country treated its veterans. Such a heartbreaking story but so incredibly beautiful at the same time. I cried many times while listening to the story but I don’t regret a single one of them. I will absolutely read this again,

The story is a bit lengthy but it’s worth it. An interesting twist on the old tale about selling your soul.

This is a well written crime/police procedural, introducing a like able detective, Cormac Reilly. I’ll definitely be reading the books in his series.

I’ve been reading Judy Blume since I was a kid, & I’ve always loved her style. This book did not disappoint!

I really enjoyed this story. It was easy to get into the story quickly and feel a connection to the characters. Many aspects of the story are heartbreaking but still beautiful!

I thought this was a beautiful story of the strength & fierceness & intelligence of a woman, a witch, a mother, a friend, a wife, a heroine. I absolutely loved this character. I also thought the ending, recounting each character through the stories of their future family was an excellent way to close the story.

Predictable and frustrating

At almost every turn, I could predict what was about to happen, how it was all going to blow back on her, which ever woman was making the bad choice. The mother and the girlfriend, the two main characters of the story, are both frustrating. The story did hold my interest though, and was an easy listen.

I'm a big fan of true crime and fictional crime stories. I am generally not turned off by graphic content but it just seems like the only goal here was to be overly graphic.

Not as good other Woodrell books

I've been a fan of Woodrell for quite some time. I've read The Bayou Trilogy (Under the Bright Lights, Muscle for the Wing, The Ones You Do), Winter's Bone, The Death of Sweet Mister, Tomato Red & Give Us a Kiss (my personal favorite). Of all of his books that I've read so far, this is probably my least favorite. It was an interesting story but just didn't pique my interest as all the others did. I wouldn't suggest starting with this one, if you've never read Woodrell, but it was still worth the read.
