Historia
Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist. Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible. After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

Beware the S lisps
Revisado: 04-20-25
I was interested in the world of this book although I think it could have delved into it a but more (perhaps it does in future books?). I think this is what kept me reading.
Do not read this book if you don’t enjoy:
-virginal, 19 year old, heroines
-heroines who constantly jump to the wrong conclusions and make stupid decisions
-best friends who you never really learn anything about
-love at first sight
Do not listen to the audio version of this book unless you’re ok with S lisps. It’s very strong at the beginning of the book especially.
I do encourage you to use this book for drinking games—the magic word is “shiver/shivers/shivered”. The heroine shivers about the temperature, and almost any time someone looks at her.

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

I’m new to David Brooks but I’ve discovered I quite enjoy his writing style, his frankness, and the way he speaks about his life and research. An enjoyable book that I might have to read again!

For people who like frankness
Revisado: 03-27-25
This book is excellent! I really like Mel Robbins already but Let Them has handy tips. I saw some reviews of people who said she’s repackaging Buddhist teachings. Reguardless if you agree with that, Mel has an easygoing frankness about her that makes the ideas accessible to a broader range of people. I think what she’s doing is terrific. Keep up the great work, Mel.

For Dee Kwan, every day is the perfect day. No, really. She has a house she loves, a job she adores, and a ridiculously attractive “nemesis” who never seems to mind when she wins their favorite online game. How can life possibly get better? (It can’t, obviously. It can only get much, much worse.) Soon Dee is forced to share her adorably cozy home with her parents and estranged grandmother. Then she’s tossed into the deep end at work, tasked with cleaning up a scandal for the intimidatingly chic luxury fashion firm Celeste. If that weren’t enough, she discovers her hot nemesis works there, too.

Historia
The idea of being successful is an attractive dream that fills us with positive emotions. However, the actions required to be successful at work, in our relationships, in sports competition, are often difficult and lengthy. Therefore, even though we want to be successful, happy and influential. very few of us take the specific actions that will actually move us directly toward those goals. So what do we need to bridge the gap between what we say we want, and what we must do to achieve it? We need goal-oriented motivation.
