Historia
The Talmud says: “If someone comes to kill you, rise up and kill him first.” This instinct to take every measure, even the most aggressive, to defend the Jewish people is hardwired into Israel’s DNA. From the very beginning of its statehood in 1948, protecting the nation from harm has been the responsibility of its intelligence community and armed services, and there is one weapon in their vast arsenal that they have relied upon to thwart the most serious threats: Targeted assassinations have been used countless times, on enemies large and small....

Historia
The violent birth of the universe was only the first bang of a very bumpy ride. This unfathomably cacophonous beginning has spawned blasts, implosions, cosmic cannibalism, collisions, and countless other fleeting energetic events punctuating the cosmos. Although often brief, these transient phenomena pack a powerful punch. Astronomer and science writer C. Renee James introduces us to her colleagues around the world, who are using pioneering research techniques to explore everything from the very first explosions in the universe to the dark energy that could destroy it all.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 11-29-23
Nice layperson's book. I have listened to a lot of these armchair cosmology books and this was good, not great. Enjoyable nonetheless. Narrator read like story time at the library. Not well suited to the material. In my opinion.

Historia
Physics has always been engaged in the pursuit of expanding our knowledge of the nature of matter and the world around us. But how can you use experiments to further this quest? How do you measure the mass of a particle a trillion times smaller than a grain of sand? And, finally, why is all this important? In The Matter of Everything, accelerator physicist Suzie Sheehy introduces us to the people who, through a combination of genius, persistence and luck, staged the experiments that changed the course of history.

Enjoyed this book.

I have read/heard most armchair theoretical physics books and they have become repetitive. This was a wonderful and easy intro to experimental particle physics. It was great to hear a new perspective. No math, just a well organized and communicated history. I had to slow her voice down a bit. I hope to read more from her.

Written for those with no physics background, Paul Levy's latest book, The Quantum Revelation: A Radical Synthesis of Science and Spirituality, is for those who have heard that quantum physics is a fascinating subject but don't quite understand how or why.

Pseudoscience.
Revisado: 06-15-23
Feynman warned that people would be tempted to apply quantum physics to social and spiritual ideas on a macro scale. This book is not about quantum physics, just pseudoscience notions that sound interesting to people who enjoy such ideas. Not for me.
